ROAD AND BRIDGE COMMITTEE
CITY OF RAMSEY
ANOKA COUNTY
STATE OF MINNESOTA

The Ramsey Road and Bridge Committee conducted a special meeting on Thursday, June 5,
1997, at the Ramsey Municipal Center, 15153 Nowthen Boulevard NW, Ramsey, Minnesota.

Members Present:

Councilmember Natalie Haas Steffen
Councilmember Gerald Zimmerman

Members Absent: Councilmember Sheila Beyer

Also Present:

Mayor Thomas Gamec
Ryan Schroeder, City Administrator
Steve Jankowski, City Engineer
Mukthar Thakur, Highway #47 Corridor Coordinator

CALL TO ORDER

Councilmember Zimmerman called the special meeting of the Road and Bridge Committee to
order at 5:30 p.m.

COMMITTEE BUSINESS

Case #1: T.H. #47

Councilmember Zimmerman stated that the purpose of this meeting is to gather input from the
State regarding T.H. #47 improvements. The City has done a study that has cost about $15,000
looking for some ways to improve #47.

City Engineer Jankowski stated that the City began this process in the summer of 1996 and
pursued sending in an application for a local initiative program. We got a $400,000 project,
however, our share for what we are doing is over a million dollars. The Road and Bridge
Committee asked staff to talk with MnDOT to get the big picture and what we might expect for
T,H. #47 if we do not go after this local initiative project.

Councilmember Zimmerman noted the area being looked at is from C.R. #116 north about three-
quarters of a mile to C.R. #5. Businesses on the east side are asking when this will get improved.
He stated that the area at 142nd Avenue is especially bad for accidents. He commented that this
is a state highway, but the local government is looking at ways to improve this stretch of road to
make it safer. We are looking to the state to see what they would contribute.

Mr. Jankowski responded that if the Committee is talking about only the area from 142nd
Avenue to C.R. #5, we should be talking with Greg Coughl~n. He's made a commitment to
investigate the possibility of finding additional dollars. The hurdle we need to get over right now

Road and Bridge Committee/June 5, 1997
