<br />Mr. Kurt Ulrich presented his Arrival Plan: The first 100 days. He stated his goal is that within <br />the first 100 days, the Mayor, Council, City employees and the community would believe that <br />something new, something good was happening. He stated he would achieve this goal through <br />the following objectives: preserve the existing vitality, build relationships and develop trust, <br />introduce new ideas, and establish a strong foundation for the future. Mr. Ulrich expanded on <br />how he would achieve his objectives. <br /> <br />QUESTIONS FROM COUNCIL: <br /> <br />1. How will you be able to transition to the City of Ramsey as the City Administrator? <br /> <br />Mr. Ulrich referenced his presentation. He stated he is good with people and has experienced <br />transitions before. He commented he realizes the importance of building relationships. <br /> <br />2. How do you make the trade-off between ideal long-term goals and short-term <br />immediate results? Use one of your recent projects as an example. <br /> <br />Mr. Ulrich replied the $20 million in street projects to be accomplished in Mounds View. He <br />stated the City must look at the overall project to fund and complete in a realistic timeframe. He <br />stated he created a citizen's task force to look at all the projects to be accomplished that then <br />created a long-term plan to address the street project <br /> <br />3. Tell us about a decision you made that turned out not to be workable or practical. <br />What factors did you miss? How did you correct the situation? <br /> <br />Mr. Ulrich replied his suggestion to have a drive-through for utility bills, correspondence, and <br />such. He stated Council chose not to spend the funds for this. <br /> <br />4. Have you ever been promoted over an internal candidate before? If so, how did you <br />manage the transition? How did the relationship develop/survive? <br /> <br />Mr. Ulrich replied he was an internal candidate in the City of Champlain. He stated he had no <br />internal competition. If chosen, the first person he would speak to would be Patrick. He would <br />groom him to be a City Administrator. <br /> <br />5. How do you feel about receiving praise and recognition? About giving it? Give us <br />some work-related examples. <br /> <br />Mr. Ulrich replied it makes him uncomfortable but deep down it feels good and he appreciates it. <br />He has done recognition with his staff in previous positions. <br /> <br />6. Tell us about a creative or innovative process improvement that was implemented <br />because of your suggestion.
