<br />Scope of Policy <br /> <br />The scope of this policy includes employees whose job functions require the use of <br />respiratory equipment. <br /> <br />Purpose of Policy <br /> <br />The purpose of this policy is to adequately test (physically and functionally) and train <br />employees whose job functions include the use of respiratory equipment. Currently the <br />only department required to use respiratory equipment is the Fire Dept., specifically; <br /> <br />Use of SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus) <br /> <br />Use of Confined Space Rescue equipment <br /> <br />The minimum requirements for each type of equipment include: <br /> <br />SCBA <br />· Annual Fit Testing (NFPA 1910.134)* <br />· Every other year Respirator Medical Evaluation (NFPA 1910.134)* <br />· One session of In-house training using equipment <br /> <br />Confined Space Rescue Equipment <br />· Annual Fit Testing (NFPA 1910.134)* <br />· Bi-annual Respirator Medical Evaluation (NFPA 1910.134)* <br />· Every other year one session of In- House training using equipment <br /> <br />*Testing and training cover both types of equipment and need not be <br />duplicated <br /> <br />It is the responsibility of the Fire Chief to assure the Fire Department's adherence to this <br />policy. The Fire Chief will take appropriate action if any staff member does not meet the <br />requirements of the policy. <br /> <br /> <br />6 <br /> <br />-77- <br />
