TRAFFIC

ACCIDENT LOCATION MAPS BEING
By: Steve Jankowski, City Engineer

RB CASE
PREPARED

Background:

Traffic accidents involving personal injuries or a threshold level of property damage are required to
be reported to the local police. This information is kept on a computer data base which is filed on a
grid. To date, it has not been possible to view accident locations on a typical city base map. The
Police Department has prepared a 1996 accident location map on a City base map and is preparing
similar maps on previous years, as time allows. These maps will be utilized to provide accident
history information when reviewing requests for traffic entering devices.

Information should also be useful to identify accident prone locations, which then can be
investigated for modification. The maps will be kept by the Engineering Department.

Action:

None - for information only.

Reviewed by:

Acting Police Chief
City Administrator

RB:03/11/97

/jek
