REPORT FROM PUBLIC WORKS <br />By: Public Works Staff <br />Background: <br />The Public Works Committee met on Tuesday, September 18, 2007 and discussed the following <br />ten cases: <br />CITIZEN INPUT <br />Case #1 Discuss 167 Avenue Alignment and Schedule <br />Background: <br />Since 2004 the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) has included as a future improvement to the <br />street system the extension of 167 Avenue between Nowthen and Armstrong Boulevards as a <br />collector street. The current CIP anticipates this project to occur in three phases and is scheduled <br />for construction from east to west in successive years beginning in 2007. Work has not been <br />initiated this year as proposed in the schedule, however, there have been inquiries from the <br />general public relative to this project and its schedule. The purpose of this case is to identify the <br />process and schedule for proceeding with this project <br />Due to the length of the discussion on this topic the draft meeting minutes from the citizen <br />input portion are attached for your convenience. These minutes will be approved at the <br />October 16, 2007 Public Works Committee meeting. <br />Motion to recommend to City Council to direct City staff to begin feasibility studies for segment <br />1 from Quartz Street to CR 5 and that segments 2 and 3, be moved in the Capital Improvements <br />Plan to years 2011 and 2012, and ask that the comprehensive plan address this issue as well as <br />alignment. <br />Action: <br />Ratify the recommendation of the Public Works Committee. <br />Case #2 Update on Dirt Driveway Paving <br />CASE # I (CO <br />Background: <br />Staff provided the Committee with a summary of a survey conducted to quantify the number of <br />dirt driveways within the City and also presented costs that property owners could expect to <br />incur based upon the length and width of their driveways. Committee members expressed <br />reservation with any type of City subsidy to encourage the paving of driveways, but did want to <br />find out how many properties with dirt driveways would be favorable to having them paved.
