Voting No: None. <br /> <br />COUNCIL BUSINESS <br /> <br />Case #1: <br /> <br />Introduction of an Ordinance to Ban Non-Sanctioned Mixed Martial Arts in <br />the City of Ramsey <br /> <br />Police Chief Way stated that after the last City Council meeting, he received a call stating that <br />the term "Ultimate Fighting" is. a trademark name, so the City will now need to refer to it as <br />Mixed Martial Arts. He stated that since the last meeting he has spoken with Commissioner <br />Scott LeDeux and found that Mixed Martial Arts is actually sanctioned through the State of <br />Minnesota Boxing Association. Chief Way stated that Commissioner LeDeux suggested that <br />City ban non-sanctioned events, rather than a total ban. Commisisoner LeDeux indicated that <br />there have been four sanctioned events in the last two months and it is increasing in popularity, <br />so more events will be coming. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec asked if the ordinance would still stop someone from holding a fighting event in <br />their garage. <br /> <br />Chief Way stated that would be considered a non-sanctioned event, because there would not be <br />trained referees present, so it would not be allowed in the City. <br /> <br />City Council /October 9, 2007 <br />Page 4 of 25 <br />
