to communicate that any damage to. the curb as a result of snow plowing would be the <br />responsibility of PSD, LLC and not the City. <br />Action: <br />Ratify the recommendation of the Public Works Committee. <br />Case #7: Safe Route to School Grant Application <br />Background: <br />Staff explained that there are federal funds available through MnDot for projects that will <br />encourage students Kindergarten through 8th grade to walk or bike to school. Grants up to <br />$175,000 are available for projects that will encourage this goal. Staff is recommending that a <br />grant application be made for an infrastructure project consisting of trail and sidewalk <br />installation within the designated-two mile walking distance of Ramsey Elementary School. Up <br />to $5,000 of the grant can be utilized for non-infrastructure functions such as education and <br />enforcement of the program. There is also a very tight deadline for this grant application <br />because it needs to be submitted by November 16, 2007. <br />The areas the staff plans to target in this grant application include: Alpine Street and Nowthen <br />Boulevard; CR 5 to Lord of Life Church; Sunfish Boulevard. The City will be meeting with the <br />school and the County to work on planning. <br />Since the Public Works Committee meeting staff has met with Ramsey Elementary-School and <br />Anoka County Highway Department officials who have agreed to prepare letters of support for <br />the City's application. Attached to this case is a listing of 'the. infrastructure improvements <br />proposed by the city. Should a grant be awarded to the City detailed plans will need to be <br />prepared and approved by Anoka County for the improvements located within their right of way. <br />In addition staff would anticipate holding informational meetings for property owners adjacent to <br />the proposed improvements. <br />Motion to recommend to City Council that staff be directed to prepare and submit an application <br />for the Safe Routes to School Program. <br />Action: <br />Ratify the recommendation of the Public Works Committee. <br />-130- <br />
