Hiring Public Works Maintenance Worker <br /> <br />Ms. Waite Smith stated that the City advertised for a maintenance worker and we received 90 <br />applications. Staff evaluated them and pared it down to 10 people who will be going through the <br />first interview. When the Personnel Committee was asked how involved in the interviewing <br />process they wanted to be, their response was that staff should do it. <br /> <br />Performance Appraisals <br /> <br />Ms. Waite Smith reported that the performance evaluations are either completed or scheduled. <br />Study of Clerical Positions <br /> <br />Ms. Waite Smith stated she is in the process of conducting the study of clerical positions and that a <br />report should be ready by the March 12 meeting. <br /> <br />Study of Public Works <br /> <br />Ms. Waite Smith reported that she is also in the process of conducting the study of the Public <br />Works Department. The final report will be presented in April. <br /> <br />Safety <br /> <br />Ms. Waite Smith stated that City staff met with Berkely and developed a list of things that need to <br />be done to be sure the City is in compliance with safety legislation. <br /> <br />Miscellaneous Items <br /> <br />Ms. Waite Smith informed Council that two people have resigned from the Fire Department. <br />Recommendations on filling those vacancies will be forwarded soon. <br /> <br />The patrol officers and fhe fighters who have not yet received their Hepatitis-B vaccinations have <br />been advised of same and given the opportunity to receive the vaccine. <br /> <br />Ms. Waite Smith reported that the City is advertising for part-time summer Park Workers hoping to <br />fill our positions before all the likely candidates have made other summer plans. <br /> <br />2) Park Commission Vacancy <br /> <br />City Administrator Schroeder mentioned that, recently, the Council had a joint meeting with the <br />Park and Recreation Commission to discuss the process in which the City chooses its <br />commissioners. The Personnel Committee is recommending initiating a review of the commission <br />appointment process. He recommended that Reid Droegemueller be appointed to ~l the vacancy at <br />this time. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Beyer and seconded by Councilmember Beahen to review the <br />Commission appointment process. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Hardin, Councilmembers Beyer, Beahen, Peterson and <br />Zimmerman. Voting No: None. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Beyer and seconded by Councilmember Beahen to f'fll the vacancy in <br />the Park and Recreation Commission by appointing Reid Droegemueller. <br /> <br />City Council/February 13, 1996 <br /> Page 30 of 32 <br /> <br /> <br />
