around and come down my road and turn and we could be getting on at 171st and could go down
our road. Thank you.

John Anderley, 16917 Bison Street NW, Ramsey: I do not think it's a good policy for the City to
be closing roads. I do not know if speed bumps will help it or not - everyone has the same
problem - but each one of us lives there - so get the license numbers of the speeders and call them
in to the police. The neighborhood themselves can control the speeders. Everyone complains but
no one takes the initiative.

Councilmember Zimmerman: The reason we decided to close this road was for safety reasons.
We have some serious safety problems here. This hate-thy-neighbor attitude is not helping
anyone. It's safety for kids that led me to vote to close this road. A man in Sauk Rapids was shot
over land disputes. Let's get together and get this straightened out.

Anita Lam6y, 5840 - 160th Lane NW (formerly resided at 16926 Bison Street NW) Ramsey: We
want something done for us - they (Council) have their minds made up.

Councilmember Beyer: I heard some good points tonight. I also heard some things that disturbed
me. We will not help anything by pointing blame. I heard a few good solutions for this. Intent of
closing the road was strictly temporary. It would allow us to see what options people could come
up with for solution. I would like to see the meetings continue.

Resident: Why has this gone on for several years.

Councilmember Beyer: I would like to continue discussions - go back and regroup. I had no
intention of keeping it closed for more than three months. This was a way to get everyone to talk.
I would hope we could go on from here. The only way to come up with a solution is to continue
talking.

Councilmember Beahen: I agree with what Councilmembers Beyer and Zimmerman have
indicated. In reference to the comment that we have come here closed minded - that's untrue and
unfair. A couple of people who have called me have not left a name or number. I drove the area
again before coming here to the meeting to hear both sides of the issue. I acknowledge that we
have heard mostly from this family (Dusbabek's). I am frustrated at the level of disrespect and
anger. That surprises me - I would think you would like to live in harmony. You elected us and
we would like to work with you. Pointing fingers, calling names, etc. - that closes the willingness
to hear all sides of the stories. You are admitting you are being spiteful. We cannot have that and
create a compromise. We all have to give something. We are willing to do that but you need to
give us input. We need your help. We cannot do it by ourselves. We respect that you all have a
life outside of this - so do we - but this is an issue that we need to have time and willingness for.

Resident: We did not have a vote on the closing of 171st.

Councilmember Beahen: This closure was temporary. We tried to make a decision based on what
we had at the time. We are concerned with this issue. We are willing to compromise and listen.

Renee Newman, 16830 Yolite Street NW, Ramsey: I was never notified about the closing. I have
no issue with them (Dusbabek's). My kids play with their kids, but if we can close a road that
easy, I want my road closed too.

Mary Gryz, 7830 - 168th Lane NW, Ramsey: I am discouraged by these comments - by the
language. We are all professionals. There's a young boy here. If it's to close down the road
because of the safety of the children - well, there are 12 drivers in our neighborhood - we could
have 30 cars a day going by our homes. It's my responsibility to make sure my kids are not on the

Bison/171 st Neighborhood Meeting/September 11, 1996
Page 6 of 8
