CITY COUNCIL
CITY OF RAMSEY
ANOKA COUNTY
STATE OF MINNESOTA

The Ramsey City Council conducted a special meeting on Tuesday, October 1, 1996, at the
Ramsey Municipal Center, (lower level) 15153 Nowthen Boulevard NW, Ramsey, Minnesota.

Members Present:

Mayor Glen Hardin
Councilmember Carolyn Beahen
Councilmember Sheila Beyer
Councilmember Kenneth Peterson
Councilmember Gerald Zimmerman

Also Present:

City Administrator Ryan Schroeder
Zoning Administrator Sylvia Frolik
Economic Development Commission Chairperson Ken Wagner

CALL TO ORDER

Mayor Hardin called the special meeting of the City Council to order at 6:03 p.m.

CITIZEN INPUT

None.

APPROVE AGENDA

Consensus was to approve the agenda as presented.

CONSENT AGENDA

None

COUNCIL BUSINESS:

Case #1: Request for a Conditional Use Permit for an Off-Site Advertising
Sign; Case of Holm's Super Bowl, Inc.

Zoning Administrator Frolik stated that this case was tabled at the regular Council meeting to allow
staff more time to research possibilities. Ms. Frolik talked with Mr. Dubats and he is able to
provide space on a sign. It's not the space the SuperBowl wanted, but they will take what they can
get. They would like to discuss this further.

City Administrator Schroeder presented proposals for a couple different signs - a 13' x 14' (cost
$9,458 for one sign) and an 8' x 10' (cost 4,839 for one sign). There would be some electrical
work if the sign would be lit plus the structure to hold the sign and that would be brick or wood.
There would be a 2' by 7' wide spot for Holm's SuperBowl but they were looking for 96 square
feet so this is significantly less. He inquired if Council is interested in this idea with these prices.
If so, what do you think of the general schematic of the sign. He added that these are replaceable
signs that are "$300 a shot". He thought that staff should meet with area businesses to find out
their interest in participation of a sign such as this.

Councilmember Peterson inquired what the cost estimate for the brick may be.

City Council/October 1, 1996
