Mr. Schroeder replied in the $3,000 to $4,000 range and the electric work would be about $500 or
so, depending upon the location.

Mayor Hardin suggested that we should try to pursue this along with some conformity on
Highway #10. He added that he met with Mr. Bidwell and he is open to working with Mr. Dubats
on a sign. He suggested a meeting be scheduled.

Mr. Schroeder stated that Mr. Dubats has 32 square feet of signage.

Mayor Hardin stated that Mr. Bidwell said they will be having some regional or state-wide
functions and they would like to have a sign by then.

Councilmembe~ Peterson expressed interest in what the other Councilmembers feel about the level
the City should participate.

Councilmember Beyer felt that if we are looking at conformity, the City should be the major
contributor.

Councilmember Beahen asked who paid for the sign in Northfork.

Mr. Schroeder responded that the City paid a portion of it, $3,500 plus an insurance policy.
Northfork is responsible for the electric bill and maintenance.

Councilmember Peterson inquired if the City is looking at building a sign and only charging $300
for placement.

Councilmember Beyer suggested the City should be the major contributor - maybe 75% or more.

Mayor Hardin stated that maybe it's too early to pin down what each participant's share might be.
Maybe we could use the revolving loan fund.

Councilmember Peterson stated that if you go to the businesses and we do not know what we are
willing to contribute, that may or may not help make their decision.

Mayor Hardin felt that coordinating this with other businesses would reduce the sign cost. The
City's portion would be to provide low interest or interest free financing.

Councilmember Beyer asked do we want to have them participate that much in the cost when that
business may not be here all that long. The City will always be here and we are pushing this sign.

Mayor Hardin stated that the sign would be maintained by the landowner. They would be
responsible for changing the panels, etc.

Councilmember Peterson inquired if they could then have free sign space for doing that.

Mayor Hardin felt that would be an option. Folks are paying now. Space like this costs about
$125/month for lease. He suggested businesses would be interested in a co-op.

Ken Wagner, Economic Development Commission, felt this is premature - businesses interest may
depend on the cost.

Councilmember Be~en asked if we have a bottom line we are willing to give.

City Council/October 1, 1996
