CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION <br />CITY OF RAMSEY <br />ANOKA COUNTY <br />STATE OF MINNESOTA <br />The Ramsey City Council conducted a City Council Work Session on Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at <br />the Ramsey Municipal Center, 7550 Sunwood Drive NW, Ramsey, Minnesota. <br />Members Present: <br />Members Absent: <br />Also Present: <br />Mayor Sarah Strommen <br />Councilmember Jill Johns <br />Councilmember Mark Kuzma <br />Councilmember Chris Riley <br />Councilmember Melody Shryock <br />Councilmember Kristine Williams <br />Councilmember John LeTourneau <br />City Administrator Kurtis Ulrich <br />Finance Director Diana Lund <br />Parks and Assistant Public Works Superintendent Mark Riverblood <br />Public Works Superintendent Grant Riemer <br />Community Development Director Timothy Gladhill <br />City Engineer Bruce Westby <br />Asst. City Administrator/Economic Development Manager Patrick Brama <br />1. CALL TO ORDER <br />Mayor Strommen called the City Council Work Session to order at 5:33 p.m. <br />2. TOPICS FOR DISCUSSION <br />2.01: Anoka County Historical Society Update and Introduce Executive Director <br />Rebecca Ebnet-Mavencamp introduced herself to the Council and staff, providing a brief <br />summary of her career experience. She provided a summary of facts from the Historical Society <br />annual report noting that the volunteer hours they accumulate each year is the equivalent of <br />$54,172 in paid staff time. She reviewed the makeup of the staff which includes full-time and <br />part-time employees as well as interns and volunteers. She advised that the Society and three <br />other similar organizations are sharing an archeological grant, specifically highlighting work <br />completed on the Foster Cemetery. She stated that the Farms to Flamingos exhibit will open on <br />July 9, 2016 and will highlight how the cities have grown from farms to suburbia. She noted that <br />the Historical Society will be speaking at the first day of issue event for the new Halloween <br />stamp on September 29th and advised that the Society will host a fundraising dinner that evening. <br />She stated that the role of the Historical Society is to preserve the stories and tell the stories <br />rather than preserve specific items. She stated that each city has a unique identity and she would <br />like to create a volunteer committee in each city to gather the stories of that city, as well as create <br />City Council Work Session / June 28, 2016 <br />Page 1 of 4 <br />
