~' s HAPPY DAYs FEsrrvAL A HOGE: Sa:rEss

On Saturday, September 16, the City held its second annual
community celebration. This year's theme was @"Happy Days"@
and was in conjunction with a car show that featured many cars
from the 50's and the band, The Classics, who played many great
tunes from the 50's through today. The l<ids had games to play,
local talent had an audience to play to and the canine partner of the
canine unit played his part of the demonstration very well.
The Fire Department showed the importance of the 'jaws
of life" in a demonstration of how someone can be extricated from a
vehicle; the Whopper Hopper showed that jumping in it was more
fun than jumping on the bed; and the food was simply out of this
world! There were grilled porl< chops, pizza, hot dogs, hot
sandwiches, salads, cold drinl<s of alllcinds, and hot buttery popcorn.
Only the bees should have gone home hungry (but they didn't)!

Some of the day's events included:
:1 A Teen Dance sponsored by Youth First
:1 Local food vendors
:1 Lion's Bar-B-Que
:1 Over 50 cars exhibited in the Classic Car Show once again
2001 CITY BUDGET
& TAX LEVY

TRUTH N' TAXATION PUBLIC

HEARING - DECEMBER 4, 2000

The 2001 proposed budget has been
reviewed by the City Council at several worl<shops
and Council meetings held in August and
September. On September 12, 2000, the City
Council approved the maximum 2001 City Tax
Levy and General Fund Budget. The levy, if
approved, would increase the City's tax rate by
approximately 14.63% over the 2000 rate. Keep
in mind that if your property value increased for
taxes payable in 2001, your tax liability may
increase due to possible increases in your
property's assessed value.
The City of Ramsey, Anol<a County, the
school districts of either Anol<a- Hennepin ISD
#11 or EII< River ISD #728, and special taxing
districts, such as the Lower Rum River Watershed
Management Organization, all receive a portion
of your property tax. As the chart below
indicates, in 2001, the City will receive
approximately 22% of the property taxes paid by
City property owners.

2001 PROPERTY TAX ALLOCATION

Most of the City's tax levy revenue is used
to pay for General Fund activities. The balance is
used to pay for bond issues for public
improvements. General Fund activities include
general government (elections, administration,
finance, mayor and council, planning,
commissions, legal, etc.), public safety (police, fire
protective inspections, civil defense, animal control
and traffic engineering), public worl<s ( engineering,
street maintenance, and snow and ice removal),
