ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY BOARD CITY OF RAMSEY ANOKA COUNTY STATE OF MINNESOTA On Monday, March 3, 2008, the Environmental Policy Board (EPB) met in the Mississippi River Room, Ramsey Municipal Center, 7550 Sunwood Drive, Ramsey, Minnesota. Members Present: Chairperson Joe McDildfi Board Member Bob Bentz Board Member John Freeburg Board Member Wayne Harvey Board Member Michael Max Board Member Bob Sibilski Board Member Thomas Stodola Members Absent: None Also Present: Environmental Coordinator Chris Anderson CALL TO ORDER Chairperson McDilda the meeting to order at 6:40 p.m. CITIZEN INPUT Board Member Bentz stated that he had seen an ad in the Ramsey Resident advising that the City would be collecting computers and televisions. He questioned where those materials would end up. Environmental Coordinator Anderson stated that the City works with one of two companies in Minnesota who have signed Basal Action Network's E-Stewardship pledge, which states that the material would not be exported and that prison labor would not be used in the recycling process. He stated that the City works with a company named RetroFit Recycling and that the collection would be free of charge. He advised that there would be a mailing a few weeks before the event. He stated that he is aware of the problem of electronics being exported to third world countries and that there was an excellent article in National Geographic discussing the issue. Board Member Sibilski questioned if there had been any thought to make the collection of florescent bulbs no charge. He stated that it would be easy for people to throw them in the garbage ifthere was a charge to turn them in for recycling. Environmental Coordinator Anderson advised that they will not be advertising this fact, but he was thinking of having the fIrst ten free of charge in relation to florescent bulbs.
