There
were 11 full scale operations which include using the full crew plus part-time help. There were
14 minor snowfalls which include sanding of intersections, etc. The first call for snow and ice
control was on November 4,2003, for minor sanding. The first full scale plowing operation was
on November 26, 2003, compared to February 3 of the previous year. The snow removal
equipment held up well with the exception of three major problems which included a broken
wing post and two major hydraulic hose ruptures. All three problems were major enough to
force the equipment out of service for the duration of the storms.

Director of Public Works Kapler pointed out that the City's mechanic does not snow plow,
therefore, he is able to begin fixing broken equipment right away.

Mr~ Riemer informed the Committee of new equipment purchased. The 1992 plow truck has
been replaced with a 2004 model and a new piece of equipment for sidewalk/trail maintenance
was added which includes a broom and snow blower that attaches to the front end loader.
