PROCEEDINGS OF CITY COUNCIL <br /> CITY OF RAMSEY <br /> ANOKA COUNTY <br /> STATE OF MINNESOTA <br /> <br />A special meeting of the Ramsey City Council was held on Monday, May 16, <br />1983 at the Ramsey Municipal Center, 15153 Nowthen Blvd. N.W., Ramsey, <br />Minnesota. <br /> <br />Members Present: <br /> <br />Mayor Thomas Gamec <br />Councilmember A1Sorteberg <br />Councilmember Gary Reimann <br />Councilmember Sue Van Wagner <br />Councilmember Jean Schlueter <br /> <br />Also Present: <br /> <br />City Building Official Clayton Berg <br />Reporter Carolyn Thompson <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec called the special meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. and led in the <br />Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec stated that the purpose of tonight's meeting is to allow Ramsey <br />City Council and Ramsey Coalition discuss certain issues. <br /> <br />Ed Mingel - 15231 Kangaroo - With the passing of the Superfund Bill, this <br />might be an inopportune point in time for Ramsey to proceed with sewer and <br />water, Ramsey's portion of Superfund monies could be denied if we have <br />already proceeded with utility installation and obtaining those monies would <br />hinge on proof that there is contamination at the landfill. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec replied that there are test wells around the landfill and all <br />tests indicate that there is no problem of contamination. <br /> <br />Dick Sieber - 15430 Marmoset - Inquired if hazardous waste is being dumped <br />at landfill inadvertently. <br /> <br />Councilmember Reimann replied that when the landfill was being operated by <br />Anoka there was a sludge pit on the premises and Ramsey officials ordered <br />that sludge pit dug out and filled with clean fill. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec stated that no doubt there are hazardous items being dumped at <br />the landfill inadvertently and it becomes the problem of educating the <br />citizens. <br /> <br />During the discussion that followed the following items were mentioned as <br />items that should not be dumped at the landfill: refrigerators, car batteries, <br />oil base paint and cans, latex paint and cans (if containing lead), used oil, <br />flashling and radio batteries, household detergents, paint thinner. <br /> <br />Stan Data - 5510 140th Lane - Inquired if Ramsey landfill is any different <br />that other landfills that are causing pollution problems. <br /> <br />Councilmember Reimann stated that Ramsey's landfill is much cleaner than <br />other landfills in the County, that he and Mr. Cox have put demands on the <br /> <br />Sp C/May 16, 1983 <br /> Page 1 of 9 <br /> <br /> <br />
