Ramsey Park and Recreation Commission
Regular Meeting June 22, 1978

Members Present:

Dennis Donovan
R. Sam Walz
John Lichter

The meeting was called to order by Acting Chairman Dennis Donovan. The
minutes of the May 18th meeting were accepted after a motion by Sam Walz
and a second by John Lichter.

Ms. Lauma Rothenberg requested that the Commission assist her in improving
Whispering Pines #2 City Park. These Plans (tentatively) include clean
up, seeding and the development of a tot lot by a 4-H group under Ms.
Rothenberg's supervision. After some discussion it was suggested that Ms.
Rothenberg submit a plan in writing to the Commission which could then be
forwarded to the Council for their consideration. The Commission requested
Mr. Mevissen, who was present at the meeting, to mark the corners of the
property since there was some question with respect to the actual site
boundary. Mr. Mevissen agreed to meet with Ms. Rothenberg on site and
locate the property corners.

Merle Mevissen appeared at the Commission meeting to discuss the park
maintenance schedule which was requested in a motion during the'May 18
meeting. Mr. Mevissen indicated that he did not follow any formal
maintenance schedule. He employs Mr. Wilbur Chapman to carry out many
of the routine maintenance items. Mr. Mevissen indicated that Mr. Chapman
has instructions to mow parks when they need it and to drag the Ramsey
Elementary ball fields once a week. It was indicated to Mr. Mevissen
that the Commission members had received complaints regarding the condition
of park properties. Mr. Mevissen indicated that the past situation should
have improved within the last month.

Mr. Mevissen outlined future equipment requirements for the park department.
This equipment included a tractor, snowblower attachment and a 4-wheel
drive pickup with a blade for plowing rinks. Sam Walz suggested that the
new City Administrator consider establishing a separate mark maintenance
budget to separate these costs from the Street Department budget.

Mr. Mevissen suggested the following specific park improvements:

1. Repair and paint the hockey rink
2. Seed Peltzer and Hunters Hill parks
3. Stake all park boundaries
4. Remove the elm stumps in Brookview Park

Darrell Jensen's letter of resignation was read by Dennis Donovan. The
Commission recognized Darrel's hard work and efforts as chairman and it
was recommended that the Council forward Darrel a letter expressing the
City's appreciation. It was further requested that the opening on the
Commission be advertised in the Community newsletter.
