City of Ramsey Parks & Recreation Commission
Minutes of Meeting
March 18, 1976

Present : Fred Ritchie, Robert Cushman, Herbert Scatterelli~
Jerry Manthey, Kathy Schneider, Leonard Vereeken,
John Zobova~ Ken Peterson.
Meeting was called to order at 7:35 P.M. by Mr. Ritchie. The minutes
of February 19, 1976 were approved as~read.

Nen Peterson was asked to contact Mr. Walker and obtain records of
expenditures paid out of Park & Recreation funds as agreed at the
January 21, 1976 meeting. These figures should be for the months
of January & February 1976. Copies will be mailed to each member.
The figures for March 1976 should be available by the April meeting.

Tim Paquette handed out an additional map to each member. Tim was
asked~ to check on the accuracy of the map of Ramsey Terrace.. Each
member was given a list of all park land in Ramsey with the acreage
listed. This list included State & County parks also. Tim Paquette
stated that ~ince our last meeting some of the things he had worked on
included rn~ps , obtaining information regarding the diamonds at the
school and future improvements.

After discussion on softball facilities the commission decided not
to improve any fields with lime at this time. It was discovered that
one diamond at the school had already been improved and that the distance
between present backstops made playing both fields at the same time
impractical. It was pointSd out that without' fill~ the other backstops
could not be moved to a more practical location. However, filling would
be a recommendation whsn the School initiates a comprehensive plan so
additional playing fields would be aYailabl~ and could be improved.
The Commission would li~e the City Council to consider purchasing
additional land adjacent to the site for the new municipal building to
be used for future recreational facilities. The possibility of im-
proving or installing a field at another location was discussed. It
was noted that any park land within a reasonable distance of the school
was unsuitable.

Capital Improvements: Ideas given by the Commission and Tim Paquette
included cleaning up the shoreland on the West side of the Peltzer
skatin?~ area, a small bridge acre-ss~ the water with a path for walking
around the area. Steps for Brookview were mentioned. At one time
railroad ties had been acquired for this project. The Commission
suggested Mr. Walker contact past Park Board members regarding the
location of these ties. Autumn Heights was discussed as a good location
for a future running trail. It was mentioned that at one time the
developers of this plat had been willing to help with some development
of this area such as a roughed in softball field. The Commission would
li~e Mr. Walker to contact the developers to see if.they would still be
wi].].In/,; to be].p.
