PARK AND RECREATION C0~ISSION <br /> REGULAR M~ETING 12-20-79 <br /> <br />Members Present: Dennis Donovan, Janice Johnson, Dick Swanson, John <br /> Lichter, Terry McLean <br /> <br />Others Present: <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec, Roberta Green, Sally Austin, Nancy <br />Bear, Marc Hadley, Merle Mevissen, A1 Kempf and <br />Don Locker <br /> <br />The meeting was started at 7:05 P.M. <br /> <br />It w~s moved by McLean, seconded by Johnson to approve the regular ~ <br />meeting minutes of 11-22-79 with the addition of Janice Johnson~sj';~ <br />name to the attendance roster. Approved. It was moved by Johnson <br />seconded by Swanson to adopt the special meeting minutes of 11-27-79. <br />Approved. <br /> <br />Roberta Green, Nancy Bear and Sally Austin appeared to discuss the <br />Forest Hideaway Park locatcd in the southwestern portion of that <br />development. They want to create a neighborhood ice rink and wo~ld <br />like City assistance with fine grading, boards and a tanker load <br />of water. The possibility of the City acquiring this from H & S <br />Asphalt was discussed. It was noted that many residents from <br />Whispering Pines also use the park. The Commission recommended <br />that the Council give consideration to making the requested improve- <br />ments at this park. It was later suggested that the Commission con- <br />sider moving park equipment from Whispering Pines to Forest Hideaway <br />Park. The residents also expressed a desire to obtain a ball diamond <br />backstop in the future. <br /> <br />Reports from the 11-27-79 special meeting were presented. Terry <br />McLean presented a report on Peltzer Park and on the warming house <br />pads. A four page report was presented with several sketches and <br />recommendations. This report was developed after consmltation with <br />area residents. Basic conclusions and major recommendations include: <br /> <br />1) Move pine trees from northwest corner of park <br />into the developed area. <br />2) Install a 20 x 20 slab with a backboard and hoop <br />3) Landscape the shoreline on the pond in the <br />developed area <br />4) Install walking or jogging paths possibly with <br />footbridges. <br /> <br />Dennis Donovan reported on his Traprock Park investigation. Possible <br />improvements include a 16 x 20 x 8 block building, lights and picnic <br />tables. Fencing was not deemed necessary. <br /> <br /> <br />
