The purpose of this meeting was to review the
huge increase in valuations of commercial properties. There were questions
on large tax and valuation increases. The board felt the valuation increase
was high and way out of line and with the economy the way it is now, it would
be a burden on the people of the community.

Mayor Gamec asked for further input from those present.

Mr. Dick Blomquist, Blomquist International Trucks, 6140 Highway 10

Plat #89329, Parcels #4450 and'4460.
Mr. Blomquist explained that he was not the owner of the property, that
it is owned by Mr. Ernie Peterson, but that he is the lesser. He explained
he was obligated by the terms of his lease to pay the taxes. He has been
in business for six years. His 1980 valuations represent a 44% increase in
taxes this year from one year ago. The property is 15 to 20 years old with
no improvements made. He said the situation is becoming almost unbearable.

County Assessor Thurston said in going through the past records, he found there
were discrepancies and he went out there and found 4,572 feet that were not
put on the past records.

Mr. Blomquist said that he accepted what the county told him the base value
was in 1974 when he signed the lease.

County Assessor Thurston explained that the 1976, 1977 and 1978 assessments
were correct, but in 1979, the building was measured wrong.

Mayor Gamec asked why when the square footage was dropped down, the taxes
didn't drop also.

County Assessor Thurston said he found the measurements were off in 1979.

Board of Review
May 22, 1980
Page 1
