SPECIAL ~ETING OF BA~SEY CITY PLANNING & ZONING COMMISSION <br /> December 9, 197~ <br /> <br />The meetir~g was called 'to order by the Chairman, Mr. Sorteberg <br />at 7:00 p.m. Present were Mm'. Bodle, Mr. Pittman, Mr. Gamec, <br />Mr. Emmans, ~r. Fossum m~d Mrs. Guy. <br /> <br />This is a special meeting called for Mr. Alfred A. Albert for <br />which he has paid $125.00~ He said when we had. a filing~fee de- <br />cision made, he would pay it. He filed a formal .petition to re- <br />zone land owned by Martin Gorham and Stephen Holasek. He said <br />the most costly development there is, according to. federal sta- <br />tistics~ is single family houses on large lots. The MSA Plans <br />show 153rd will be completed from Highway ~7 to Highway #5. A <br />shopping center will help to build up our tax base. It will <br />shorten the distance to a shopping center. Northtown is 15 miles <br />from here~ They feel it will take three years to develop.. They <br />hope to do a good job on the planning of this shopping ~ center. <br />It will be necessary to have a public .hearing. They plan. to call <br />on many of %he neighbors around this area. He feels we. are in a <br />growth area. If the neighbors do not want a shopping.center, they <br />don't want to put one in~ He feels developers should..work with <br />the community~ for the betterment of the wh~ole community. Mr. <br />Gotham has 56 acres and Nr. Holasek has 3~ acres. Mr. Gorham's <br />land is on both sides of #~7. Our 'Planning .& Zoning Ordinance <br />requires that this Co~ission file findings with the Council for <br />rezoning. If this rezoning is passed,, this group will. come back <br />to Planning and Zoning Commission from time to time for further <br />direction~ They would like to meet with the .Council on December <br />l&th. They are planni~g on a large supermarket, and. possibly a <br />group of other stores such as, hardware, Sears, ~spec£alty sh~ps, <br />women' s and men' s furndshings, drug store, bakery, barber shop, <br />fabric discount, laund~'omat, jewelry store, etc. - <br /> <br />Mr. Emmams moved we re¢,ommend the rezoning of Mr. Gorham's 56 <br />acres and Mr. Holasek'~ 36 acres from R-1 to B-2 according, to the <br />plan brought in by Mr. Albert. We feel this, is a good location <br />and will enhance the t~x base for the City of Ramsey and for the <br />other reasontmentioned io, the petition. Seconded by Mr. Bodle. <br />Motion carried unanimously, The secretary was instructed~to send <br />a report of these find~.ngs to the Council. <br /> <br />Other property owners in this areawere present: Mr. &Mrs. Aydt, <br />Mr. Gale Gotham, Mr~ A~.bin Peterson and Mr. Harry Fleischer. They <br />stated they had been ixL~ last summer with a request for rezoning <br />of their property fro~ residential ~to commercial~and..trust some- <br />thing will be done about this matter. They indicated the property <br />they own on a map of the City of Ramsey. <br /> <br />Mr~ Dick Johnson from the airport was present. Mr. s~rteberg <br />asked him about the matter of I~rs. Sibbl who lives nearthe air- <br />port. He said one of the pilots had taken Mrs. Slbbtfor a ride <br />in his plaue that day ~nd he felt that both Mrs. Sibbl and.the <br />pilot had come to a~ u~erstanding of each other's problems. She <br />seemed satisfied and the pilot had more understanding~of'her problem. <br /> <br /> <br />
