CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION <br />CITY OF RAMSEY <br /> ANOKA COUNTY <br /> STATE OF MINNESOTA <br /> <br />The Ramsey City Council conducted a work session on Tuesday, May 18, 2004, at Ramsey Fire <br />Station No. 1, 15050 Armstrong Boulevard NW, Ramsey, Minnesota. <br /> <br />Members Present: <br /> <br />Mayor Thomas G. Gamec <br />Councilmember Todd Cook <br />Councilmember David Elvig <br />Councilmember Patti Kurak <br />Councilmember A1 Pearson <br />Councilmember Sarah Strommen <br />Councilmember Gerald Zimmerman <br /> <br />Also Present: <br /> <br />City Administrator James E. Norman <br />Assistant City Administrator Heidi Nelson <br />Director of Public Works/Fire Chief Dean Kapler <br />Police Chief James Way <br />Assistant Director of Public Works Brian Olson <br /> <br />CALL TO ORDER <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec called the Council work session to order at 6:34 p.m. <br /> <br />APPROVAL OFAGENDA <br /> <br />Consensus was to move the discussion of the Tobacco Free Parks policy to be discussed first, <br />add Discussion of Trunk Sewer Project and Discussion of Highway #47 Accident - Monday, <br />May 17, 2004. <br /> <br />TOPICS FOR DISCUSSION <br /> <br />Case #2: Tobacco Free Parks <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec introduced the topic of Tobacco Free Parks. The City is looking at a policy that <br />would ban smoking from City Parks. <br /> <br />Assistant Director of Public Works Olson provided background regarding meetings with Youth <br />First and the Park and Recreation Commission about the policy. <br /> <br />Rachel Hillyer of Anoka County, provided information about other communities, such as <br />Champlin, Coon Rapids, Shoreview, and New Brighton, that have adopted a policy regarding <br />smoking bans in parks. Anoka County will be promoting the policy with help from a grant <br />received from the State Department of Health. <br /> <br />City Council Work Session - May 18, 2004 <br /> Page 1 of 6 <br /> <br /> <br />
