CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION <br />CITY OF RAMSEY <br /> ANOKA COUNTY <br /> STATE OF MINNESOTA <br /> <br />The Ramsey City Council conducted a City Council Work Session on Tuesday, May 24, 2005, at <br />the Ramsey Fire Station Number I, 15050 Armstrong Boulevard NW, Ramsey, Minnesota. <br /> <br />Members Present: <br /> <br />Councilmember Todd Cook <br />Councilmember David Elvig <br />Councilmember David Jeffrey <br />Councilmember Mary Jo Olson <br />Councilmember A1 Pearson <br />Councilmember Sarah Strommen <br /> <br />Members Absent: <br /> <br />Mayor Thomas Gamec <br /> <br />Also Present: <br /> <br />City Administrator James E. Norman <br />Assistant City Administrator Heidi Nelson <br />Finance Officer Diana Lund <br />Director of Public Works/Fire Chief Dean Kapler <br />Assistant Director of Public Works Brian Olson <br /> <br />CALL TO ORDER <br /> <br />Mayor Pro Tern Elvig called the City Council Work Session to order at 5:58 p.m. <br /> <br />APPROVE AGENDA <br /> <br />The agenda was approved as submitted. <br /> <br />COUNCIL TOPICS FOR DISCUSSION <br /> <br />1) <br /> <br />Request to Submit Application to Minnesota Peace Officers Standards and Training <br />for Part Time Police Officer <br /> <br />Police Chief Way explained one of the City's patrol officers, Officer Ryan Law, was involved in <br />a serious automobile accident in April. He is on an extended medical leave and at this point, it is <br />not known how long this will be. Another of the City's officers, Investigator Jam Balabon will be <br />retiring at the end of June. Staff is in the process of replacing Jim Balabon, but this person will <br />not be available for lone officer response until sometime in November. The Police Department <br />needs to cover shift minimums while they are short the two officers. The Police Department is <br />headed into their busiest time of the year, which are the summer months, and this is also the most <br />requested time for officers to take vacation. He explained there are several options available to <br />the Police Department at this time.
