PERSONNEL COMMITTEE <br />CITY OF RAMSEY <br />ANOKA COUNTY <br />STATE OF MINNESOTA <br />The Personnel Committee conducted a regular meeting on Tuesday, August 12, 2008, at the <br />Ramsey Municipal Center, 7550 Sunwood Drive NW, Ramsey, Minnesota. <br />Members Present: Chairperson David Jeffrey <br />Councilmember Mary Jo Olson <br />Member Absent: Councilmember John Dehen <br />Also Present: <br />Human Resources Manager Givonna Reed Kone <br />City Administrator Kurt Ulrich <br />Fire Chief Dean Kapler <br />CALL TO ORDER <br />Chairperson Jeffrey called the regular meeting of the Personnel Committee to order at 5:18 p.m. <br />CITIZEN INPUT <br />There was none. <br />APPROVE AGENDA <br />Motion by Chairperson Jeffrey, seconded by Councilmember Olson, to approve the agenda, as <br />submitted. <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chairperson Jeffrey and Councilmembers Olson. Voting No: <br />None. Absent: Councilmember Dehen. <br />COMMITTEE BUSINESS <br />Case #1: Consider Authorization to Hire a Fire Inspector <br />Human Resources Manager Reed Kone noted that the City's former Fire Marshal, Jerry Streich, <br />submitted a letter of resignation effective July 2008. On July 8, 2008, the Fire Marshal position <br />was reclassified to Fire Inspector and staff was authorized to conduct a recruitment process to fill <br />the Fire Inspection position. An internal recruitment process was conducted and three <br />applications were received from firefighters. Staff recommends that the Personnel Committee <br />recommend Matt Kohner for the Fire Inspector position. She advised that Mr. Kohner has <br />satisfactorily completed the background check, pre -employment physical, and drug screen. If <br />approved, Mr. Kohner's start date is proposed to be September 8, 2008, at a starting wage of <br />$26.33 per hour and subject to a six-month probation period.
