PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE
CITY OF RAMSEY
ANOKA COUNTY
STATE OF MINNESOTA

The Ramsey Public Works Committee conducted a regular meeting on March 16, 1999, at 15153
Nowthen Boulevard NW, Ramsey, Minnesota.

Members Present:

Chairperson Gerald Zimmerman
Committee Member Natalie Haas Steffen

Members Absent: None

Also Present:

Director of Public Works Dean Kapler
City Engineer Steve Jankowski

CALL TO ORDER

Chairperson Zimmerman called the regular Public Works Committee meeting to order at 5:05
p.m.

CITIZEN INPUT

There was none.

APPROVAL OF AGENDA

Consensus was to approve agenda with cases rearranged.

COMMITTEE BUSINESS

Case #1:

Receive Anoka County Highway Department 1999 Construction/Utility
Conference

This information was noted.

Case #2: Review 1999 Street Maintenance Program Issues

City Engineer Jankowski explained that at the March 9, 1999 public hearing for Improvement
Project #99-03 (Crack Fill and Sealcoat Rivenwick), there was a request that this project be
postponed for one year to allow for the development of the remaining vacant lots, avoiding
heavy trucks marring the appearance of the newly sealcoated road surface. Mr. Jankowski
agreed that construction vehicles will do that, however, he noted that delaying the project will
have the negative impact of interrupting the program. Rescheduling a project requires more
administrative effort and causes available funds for needed maintenance to go unspent for a
minimum 12-month period of time. Mr. Jankowski suggested that future maintenance programs
would be best initiated in early November with an informational meeting to identify concerns
and allow time for adjustments.

Public Works Committee/March 16, 1999
