The areas requested are for 144th Lane and
Tungsten Way, 143''d Lane and Potassium Street, and 142nd Lane and Waco Street. Two of the
th
three intersections are very low volume. 144 Lane and Tungsten, during the peak time, sees
~d
about 12 or 13 cars going through in an hour. Potassium and 143' within an hour at peak time
had 52 cars, which is less than one car per minute. On 142nd Lane and Waco we have a total
daily count of 1200 to 1300 vehicles per day. A review of the five year accident history of this
intersection, between June 1, 1993 and December 31, 1997, shows two accidents. These two
accidents occurred in 1993 and 1994. The two existing stop signs were placed in 1996. The
addition of a stop sign on the northeast leg would require 500 to 600 stops each day for traffic,
which presently has a free right turn.

Wayne Bell stated he is concerned with adding a stop on Waco and taking a right onto T.H. #47.
His concern is mostly in the winter when it is icy. It would eliminate confusion making it a
three-way versus a two-way.

Public Works Committee - May 19, 1999
