Deluca Council member Ken Peterson Council member Stephen F. Deluca CITY TO REQUEST EXPANSION OF MUSA AREA The City's stock of available building lots in the urban service area is rapidly depleting. Therefore, the City has been considering the extent that the ur- ban area should be expanded to meet development needs through the year 2000. The Planning and Zoning Commission held a public hearing on January 3, 1989 regarding the pro- posal to include an additional 400 acres of developable land in the MUSA area. The Commis- sion recommended that City Council proceed to re- quest Metro Council approval of the proposed expansion. City Council again reviewed the proposed expan- sion and related documentation on January 10. The Council unanimously voted to direct City Staff to pro- ceed to make formal application for Metro Council approval of an amendment to Ramsey's Com- prehensive Plan to expand the MUSA boundaries. POSTAL CUSTOMER RUM RIVER CROSSING TO BUILD The Rum River Bridge at County Road 116 (In- dustry Avenue) will become a reality by late 1990. The Anoka County Highway Department is current- ly working on acquisition of the needed land to build the approach work on the Ramsey side of the bridge. The approach work will be completed by September 1, 1989. This will include the realignment of County Road 116 as shown and the widening of the road to 48' with bike paths on either side. The crossing with State Highway 47 will be wired for traffic signals but no signals will be installed until traffic levels dic- tate this improvement. The bridge will be suspend- ed over the new improvements to Rivers Bend Park and pass between the two shopping centers current- ly located at the intersection. New alignment for County Road 116. UPDATE ON VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT The City Council accepted the recommendation of the Fire Board at the regular meeting on December 27, 1988, to appoint Bruce Hoeke as the first Fire Chief of the Ramsey Volunteer Fire Department. Bruce recently retired from Northwestern Bell and has been a member of the department since it's for- mation in September of 1988. Bruce is temporarily setting up shop at City Hall in the lower level meeting room. He plans to spend 3-4 mornings per week developing the department. The 21 members have been devoting much time and energy to attending the required training classes and working on various committees within the department for the purpose of ordering equipment. Regular department meetings are scheduled each Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. Men and Women who live within a 6 mile radius of City Hall are en- couraged to apply for membership.
