Printed on
Recycled Paper

RAMSEY

IDENT

RE

CITY NEWSLETTER

VOLUME 4, NUMBER 11

NOVEMBER 1989

NATIONAL PTA PROCLAIMS

NOVEMBER CHILD SAFETY

AND PROTECTION MONTH

Halloween marks the kick-off of the National PTA's an-
nual Child Safety and Protection Month. Each November,
more than 6 million members of the PT A make a special
effort to assure the safety of our children and youth. The
82 members of the Ramsey PT A are joining this effort and
believe it is critical to help the adults of our community
become more aware of the many, often unexpected dangers
young people face.
Among the topics being addressed by the National PT A
this year are sports safety, fire safety, domestic violence,
childhood stress, child care and bus safety. We urge every
citizen to learn how to protect children before accidents
happen.

PROJECT RED RIBBON

TIES INTO HOLIDAYS

The red ribbons are back on the roads of Minnesota! From
November 15 through Janury 1, Mothers Against Drunk Driv-
ing asks all Minnesotans to tie a red ribbon to a visible sec-
tion of their vehicles. The ribbons represent a pledge by the
driver and a reminder to others not to drink and drive.
Last year, Project Red Ribbon distributed one-half million
ribbons to citizens throughout the state. MADD hopes to dou-
ble last years' success by placing one million red ribbons
on Minnesota vehicles.
Don't have an antenna on your car? Tie a ribbon on your
door handle, your outside mirrors, wedged in your trunk or
hood, or even inside your car around your rear view mirror.
The important thing is to show your holiday spirit by help-
ing to keep our roads safe from drunk driving.
Tie one on with MADD's Project Red Ribbon!
For further information contact:
MADD MN.
460 N. As part of a program called Labels For Education,
the Campbell Soup Company is offering free equipment to
schools in exchange for labels from the company's products.
The PTA is hoping to collect 10,000 labels to earn books
for the media center. If you would like to help with this pro-
ject, please save your Campbell's labels and give them to
a Ramsey Elementary School student or simply drop them
off at the school. Thank you.

CURBSIDE RECYCLING

TO CONTINUE

The recent passage of the SCORE legislation requires city-
wide curbside recycling by October, 1990. Because of this,
the City will continue it's curbside recycling in Ramsey Ter-
race, Flintwood Hills and River's Bend subdivisions. The pro-
gram will continue to pick up recyclable items on the first
and third Fridays of each month.
The new SCORE legislation requires that all cities with a
population of more than 5,000 provide an opportunity for
residents to recycle by October, 1990. During the next few
months, the City Staff will be working on the plans for the
city-wide program. If residents have any suggestions regar-
ding a city-wide recycling program, they should mail them
to Jim Gromberg c/o Ramsey Municipal Center, 15153
Nowthen Blvd. N.W., Ramsey, Minnesota 55303.

Ramsey Resident
Ramsey Municipal Center
15153 Nowthen Blvd. NW
Ramsey, MN 55303

I

I'

r

SANTA'S BRUNCH

Brunch with Santa. Normal plowing starts at 2:00
a.m. or sooner if possible. Wind conditions will affect star-
ting times. Cars parked on unplowed roads will be tagged
and towed. It is against the law to push or plow snow onto
a City street from private property. Underground sprinkler
systems installed in ditches and boulevards will not be
repaired by the City if damaged by the snowplow.
The City of Ramsey is divided into five routes with each
route containing at least one major collector street which
is plowed almost immediately. Other streets are plowed in
the order determined by the driver for the fastest and most
practical way to open all roads as soon as possible. Cul-de-
sacs and short dead end streets are divided into three routes
and are plowed with different plows which add speed and
efficiency to the plowing operation.

SNOWBIRDS

Basically, this means don't park your motor vehicle on
any city street during a snowfall, or afterwards, until it is
plowed. There are a thousand excuses for leaving your vehi-
cle parked along the roadway and causing the plows to go
around it. None of them are valid. We will tag and tow! Thank
you for your cooperation in helping us provide for safe and
efficient snow plowing services.

POLICY REGARDING

SANDING OF CITY STREETS

The City of Ramsey sands all main intersections,
dangerous hills and curves and certain bus stops as needed
to control traffic. It is cost prohibitive to sand every inch
of every street. As temperature determines the effectiveness
of a salt/sand mixture, sanding will not be done on extremely
cold days except in emergency situations.
Some of the main intersections along State and County
roads are sanded as they are plowed. Others are sanded after
all roads are cleared of snow, as the sand is needed for ballast
on the trucks. For ice storms when no plowing is taking place,
sanding is done in order of importance with intersections
along the State and County roads first and all others im-
mediately thereater until finished.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
il

il
il
il Santa's Brunch............. ......1
il Plowing/Sanding Policies... . . . . 1
Curbside Recycling........ . . . . . .1
il Comm.
