Printed on Recycled Paper VOLUME 5, NUMBER 10 RAMSEY IDENT RE CITY NEWSLETTER HIGHWAY 116 PROJECT NEARS COMPLETION (RUM RIVER BRIDGE) Construction which began in the Fall of 1989 is expected to be completed in Mid-November bring- ing Ramsey residents a long awaited transportation link. The one mile long road and bridge project will provide quicker and more efficient access to south- bound U.S. Highway #10 traffic as well as more direct access to Anoka Senior High School. When the four lane roadway opens traffic volumes are an- ticipated to carry 5800 vehicles per day, making it the third most heavily traveled segment of roadway in Ramsey. Within ten years, traffic projections are expected to increase to almost 14,000 vehicles per day. Weather will determine the exact opening date. At the present time, final paving and traffic signal installation remain to be completed. All bridge work, however, has been completed by Glenwood Bridge, Inc. the prime contractor for the project. The project had been in the planning stages since the late 1970's and has required cooperation bet- ween the cities of Ramsey and Anoka and Anoka County. The County paid the $4.4 million cost of the project, while the cities of Ramsey and Anoka donated right-of-way. The Anoka County Highway Department design- ed the roadway and oversaw the construction. The department was assisted by Erickson, Roed, Johnson, Sahlman & Associates who designed three bridges, including a unique prestressed concrete arch pedestrian bridge. Thank you! CITY PROVIDES OPPORTUNITY TO RECYLCE HOUSEHOLD BATTERIES The City of Ramsey has started the first household battery reclamation program in Anoka County. This program will allow residents to deposit spent household batteries at various locations throughout the City. The receptacles for the materials are located at the Ramsey Elementary School and the Ramsey Municipal Center. The collected batteries will be shipped to special landfills in Alabama or incinerated in Illinois. This disposal method will prevent the bat- teries from polluting groundwater and the surroun- ding environment. If residents have questions concerning the battery reclamation program they should contact the Ramsey Municipal Center at 427-1410 POSTAL CUSTOMER NOVEMBER PTA MEETING TO RECEIVE INFORMATION ON AIDS The next general meeting of the Ramsey PT A is scheduled for Monday, November 19, 1990, 7:00 p.m., at Ramsey Elementary School Cafeteria. Eloise Miller will be making a presentation on Aids and the new elementary health curriculum. (This pro- gram was moved from the October agenda to the November agenda due to scheduling difficulties). EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES SNOW PLOW DRIYERS AND WING OPERATORS The City of Ramsey is currently seeking applications to fill the part-time seasonal positions of Snow Plow Drivers and Wing Operators. Rate of pay is $11.50 for Drivers and $9.50 for Wing Operators. Drivers must possess a class B drivers license and a clean driving record. If you would like to be placed on an on-call list please call Kay at 427-1410 for an applica- tion, or pick one up at Ramsey Municipal Center, 15153 Nowthen Blvd., Ramsey. Applications must be received by 5:00 p.m. Friday, November 16, 1990. RINK ATTENDANT The City of Ramsey is currently seeking applicants to fill the part-time seasonal positions of Rink Atten- dant. Applicants must be at least 16 years of age for this temporary position lasting approximately 10 weeks. Rate of pay is $5.00 per hour with schedule beginning approximately December 15, 1990. Dur- ing Christmas vacation the rinks will be open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., depending on weather conditions. Non-holiday hours are afternoon and evenings, beginning at 3:30 p.m.; and weekends from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Applications can be obtained by calling Kay at 427-1410 or at City of Ramsey, 15153 Nowthen Blvd., Ramsey.
