Atlas Incinerators, Inc., one of the largest
manufacturers of on-site incinerators and pollution
clean-up equipment in the United States, recently
selected Ramsey as the site for its new corporate
headquarters.
The new $3.5 million facility, which will include a
10,000 sq. ft. corporate office, a 28,000 sq. ft. pro-
duction facility and a 28,000 sq. ft. service center,
will be located in Gateway North Industrial Park.
Atlas, currently headquartered in Coon Rapids
and Blaine, chose Ramsey for several reasons, in-
cluding its excellent location, the availability of skill-
ed workers (Anoka Technical Institute), the adjacent
industrial properties and businesses, and the
amount of available land.
We're extremely excited about becoming a part
of the Ramsey community," said Robert Labat,
Atlas' president. "We view Ramsey as a progressive
and growing city, one that reflects the attitudes of
our company."
The new facility will have an appealing economical
impact on the city. Besides creating more than 80
jobs over the next four years, Atlas expects to at-
tract othercomplimentary manufacturing businesses
to the area. Because Atlas is an industry leader and
sells its products nationally and internationally, many
of its customers will travel to the new facility to review
new equipment, technology and manufacturing
processes.
"The area's industries are very important to us,"
said Labat. "In the past, we shipped in many of our
raw materials from all around the country. Now many
of these raw materials and technical services will be
right in our backyard."
Atlas' major business is manufacturing in-
cinerators and pollution clean-up equipment. The
new facility will enable Atlas to customize its in-
cinerators for the most complicated situations, such
as hospitals and industrial complexes.
Founded in 1957, Atlas has installed over 20,000
incinerators throughout North America, as well as
in foreign countries such as Venezuela, Peru, Puerto
Rico, EI Salvador, Saudi Arabia and India. Some of
Atlas' customers in the United States include:
MEl/Pepsi Cola (Burnsville, MN); Coca-Cola (Eagan,
MN); Topps Chewing Gum (Duryea, PA);
Washington University (St. Louis); Fairview
Southdale Hospital (Edina, MN); McDonnell Douglas
The new facility will also provide the Research &
Development department with a highly sophisticated
"white-coat" lab area, enabling it to test and develop
state-of-the-art equipment components and products
for commercial, institutional and industrial use. The
new facility will enable Atlas to offer various national
and state agencies the opportunity to jointly work
with it to analyze data and information developed
through its R&D area. In addition to R&D, the ser-
vice center will have a state-of-the-art incinerator and
pollution clean-up equipment as part of its testing
process.
The new headquarters will be built of pre-stressed
concrete, with portions having brick facing. The facili-
ty will also be professionally landscaped, befitting
the corporate headquarters of a company operating
in national and international markets.
Atlas is currently going through the necessary per-
mitting processes with officials from Ramsey and the
Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and hopes to
begin construction in early summer.
