COUNCIL ADOPTS AIRPORT

SAFETY ZONING

Since early this year, the City Council has been
reviewing the topic of airport safety zoning for the
Gateway North Industrial Airport located between
Ramsey Blvd. and Sunfish Lake Blvd. near U.S.
Hwy. #10. Over this period of time, there have been
three public hearings and the City Council meetings.
At their regular meeting of October 13, 1987, the
City Council again received comments from the peo-
ple present. Following receipt of comments, the
Council took the following actions:
1. Directed staff to prepare a resolution which
would establish a policy whereby 50% of the
cost of utilities, if and when they are extended
to the area, would be borne by the City of
Ramsey for those properties that would be pro-
hibited from subdividing due to airport zoning.
2. Adopted an ordinance which established air-
port safety zoning.
3. Set a tentative time of June, 1988 to hold an
advisory election on the question of whether
the City of Ramsey should own and/or operate
Gateway North Industrial Airport.
RECYCLING: A THING OF THE

VERY NEAR FUTURE

Recycling crops up in the news from time to time,
and with recent informational meetings on Site P and
the RDF Plant in Elk River moving forward, now is
as good a time as any to remind citizens that in the
near future, recycling will become mandatory in our
waste disposal process. But this is not to discuss the
political, nor economic, nor environmental issues
embedded in our garbage; this is simply to let the
new members of the community know (and to remind
those of us who have been here a while) where they
can recycle some of their waste products -- most
notably newspapers, scraps metals, car batteries
and motor oil. It doesn't take much to separate thes~
items from the rest of our waste.
1. The Boy Scouts have a trailer at the Ramsey
Plaza (167th Ave and Route 47) where they ac-
cept newspapers. Newspapers should be
bundled. Twenty-four hours a day.
2. The Anoka Ramsey Landfill has two bins inside
its entrance where they accept newspapers
and scrap metal. Proceeds go to the Ramsey
Jaycees. Hours: M-F 7 a.m. - 5 p.m., Sat. 8
a.m. - 1 p.m.
crushed aluminum cans on Thursdays from 1-3
p.m.
4. The Anoka Senior High Band has a trailor for
newspapers at the Anoka County Fair Grounds
on Route 47.
5. Just south of the Fair Grounds is Schwartzman
and Sons (2905 North Ferry Street). They will
buy scrap metals (copper, brass, aluminum
cast iron, and steel) as well as cars and car bat:
teries. Hours: M-F 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Sat.
8-11 :30 a.m.
) , S Hamson Street where used oil is accepted
twenty-four hours a day.
Of course other materials can be recycled in-
cluding glass, corrugated cardboard, and ~ven
telephone books. For more information you can call
the Anoka County Administration Office at 421-4760
