<br />Once again, Andover Fun ing, August 10, with a dance to

<br />time to gather up the kids,
<br />grandmas and grandpas to
<br />spend the day with your neigh-
<br />bors. There will be a horse
<br />show, including barrel races,
<br />egg and spoon races and
<br />more, with trophies for the
<br />winners. Exhibitors should

<br />tank that is always kept busy.

<br />infamous "Jacob's Ladder".
<br />The youngsters w.ill be kept
<br />busy with sack races, 3-legged
<br />races, and many, many, many
<br />individual contests. . . . . . . .
<br />And for you bingo enthusi-
<br />asts, the prizes are better than
<br />ever this year. Bingo will start
<br />at noon and continue all after-
<br />noon until all the prizes -have
<br />been given out. \
<br />Homemade food, baked
<br />goods and craft items will be
<br />sold. There will be blood pres-
<br />sure checks for those who
<br />want them. Rescue and fire
<br />equipment will be demonstrat-
<br />ed.

<br />In 1971, before Ramsey be-
<br />came a city, there was a feel-
<br />ing among a group of interest-
<br />ed businessmen to preserve
<br />an area along Hwy. 10 for in-
<br />dustrial development. Those
<br />businessmen pooled their
<br />funds and bought the area and
<br />it was zoned Industrial. One of
<br />the first things accomplished
<br />by the owners. of this Indus-
<br />trial Park was to develop an
<br />airport with a dirt runway.
<br />Gateway North Industrial
<br />Airport has served this area for
<br />13 years and its primary rea-
<br />son for existence was to en-
<br />hance industrial development
<br />in Ramsey. The airport has ac-
<br />complished part of its intend-
<br />ed use as several companies
<br />
<br />located in the area because of
<br />the airport. In 1974, the Anoka
<br />Area Vocational Technical In-
<br />stitute began instruction in
<br />FAA flight control and airport
<br />management at the facility. .
<br />In the summer of 1983, City
<br />Council was approached by
<br />the owners of the airport with
<br />a request for the City to con-
<br />sider taking ownership of the
<br />airport and upgrading it to a
<br />paved runway. The request
<br />was made on the basis of an
<br />airport being an asset to the
<br />community, but the property
<br />taxes had increased to a point
<br />where the private owners
<br />could no longer afford to hold
<br />that land for airport use. This
