Mayor Gary Heitman and
his wife, Rita, have lived in
Ramsey for 5 V2 years and
reside at 16490 Uranium with
their son Matthew, age seven,
and daughter Kathryn, four
months. Gary and Rita adopt-
ed Kathryn about three mon-
ths ago and according to
Gary, "she has kept him and
Rita humble ever since."
Mr. Heitman is employed at
Ellerbe, an architectural
engineering and construction
firm, as Manager of Project
Administrative Systems. Rita
is devoting her time' to
homemaking and added that
she is a graduate of New York
State .University with a B.S.
degree in social work. _ '
The Heitman's say they
were attracted to the Ramsey
area because it is a part of
one of the finest school sys-
tems in Minneso{a and the en-
vironment is perfect for rais-
ing children.
Gary first became involved
with Ramsey government dur-
ing the petitioning process
that resulted in the formation
of the City Charter Commis-
sion, to which he was ap-
pointed Chairman. When ask-
ed why he got involved in
local government, Gary
quoted the phrase "If you

ain't a part of the solution,
you must be a part of the pro-
blem."
Mr. Heitman stated he sees
Ramsey as a growing City and
he will only support controll-
ed, quality development that
does not occur at the expense
of existing residents. He also
intends to work towards bet-
ter communication between
the elected officials and the
citizenry of Ramsey. Mr. Heit-
man said that he feels very
strongly that elected officials
should represent the majority
and make every attempt to
keep the public informed.
Regarding Ramsey's future,
Mayor Heitman stated'that he
would like to see the landfill
issue resolved, the current
level of taxation maintained
and the citizens taking pride
in their City. He went on to
say that Ramsey, in the next
two years, will be confronting
some difficult issues and
making some equally difficult
decisions and he hopes that
the citizens will take the time
to get involved by gaining an '
understanding of the issues
and assisting in supplying
mutually agreeable solutions:-
When Mayor Heitman has
some leisure time on his
hands, he enjoys boating,
water and cross country ski-
with 5 grandchildren - Aaron,
Sarah, Erick, Clair and
Bridge Crossing and the ex-
tension of Thurston Avenue
with an overpass.
As for the. future, AI
like to see the Park system
, upgraded on a pay as you go
basis, an increase in tax base
and employment through in-
