MA YOR'S MESSAGE Today you are reading what I hope will be one of the best ways to in- form the residents of Ramsey of what is happening in their City. The Re- sident will be sent out to all homes and businesses once a month. In it we will try to inform everyone of' things that affect both the resi- dents and business people of Ramsey. We will also try to provide an in- side look at the City Council, plan- ning and Zoning Commission, Park Commission and the Economic Develop- ment Commission as well as what the responsibilities of each City De- partment are. The Resident would not be possi- ble if it were not for the Ramsey businesses who are advertising in it. I would hope that all of you who read this will support our lo- cal businesses and thank them for providing this for you. Even though the economy is down, the City of Ramsey has continued to grow. We have almost 11,000 people living here at present. Even though -there has not been a lotof development in the City this past year, the City Council has been very busy planning for the future of Ramsey. It is very impor- tant that the City Council take time to plan the City's growth and direc- tion far in advance so that it will not cost us all a huge tax increase in the future. Some of our major concerns are the landfill site, sewer and water, road improvements and construction, fire and police protection, park develop- ment and bringing business to the area to provide good strong economic growth. CONTEST WINNER The winner of our naming contest was Joan Newbolt of 16405 Quartz st. here in Ramsey. When we called to congratulate her Joan told us how she came up with the 'Ramsey Resident' and it's in- teresting how a small thought turned into a winner. After Joan had finished her list of thirteen entries she was temp- ted to sign herself, 'a Ramsey resi- dent'. That started the thought that stayed with her as she drove to turn in her entries, at the last minute she decided 'why not?' and added number fourteen--our WINNER! We were really impressed with all 99 entries on our selection sheet- so much so that it took six hours to pick a winner. We'd like to thank all of you for your creative names. Because all five judges are ac- quainted with so many of Ramsey's residents, we arranged for Penny Curtis of the City Staff to type up a list of just the entries. These were given to the judges: Mayor Gamec, Administrator Schnelle, Chief Auspos, Councilwoman Schlueter and myself. We then proceeded to agonize over 99 delightful choices before narrow- ing it down to 4 choices. So, once again we deliberated over entries and agreed that 'Ramsey Resident' was just what we'd been looking for....because it best describes what this is all about. After all this is for RESIDENTs...concerning RESIDENTS....about RESIDENTS and .....by RESIDENTS! --Sue VanWagner REFLECTIONS The announcement of the upcoming Ramsey Resident that appeared in the Ramsey Reporter sparked what we hope will be a continuous shower of inter- est and volumteers ready to help. At this point we have regular col- umns that will be written by the fol- lowing: Mayor Gamec, Councilwoman Schlueter, Chief Auspos, County Com- missioner Haas, State House Repre- sentative Larsen, Planning & Zoning Commission, Park Commission, Economic Development Commission and myself.
