Those who complete the
course will be issued a gun safety permit
by the state of Minnesota. Students must
be 12 years of age.
Class begins Thursday, September 17th
at 7:00 p.m. and the fee is $3.00. Register
by mail or phone at Ramsey Community
School.

Attention Ramsey

Residents!! !

Please Use Ramsey

In Your Address

Approximately two years ago, a
contract branch of the Post Office
was set up in Ramsey. As of that
time, Ramsey residents could start
using "Ramsey" in their address,
providing they use the 55303 zip
code. The Ramsey City Council is
urging all of our residents to start
using Ramsey in their addresses.

Girl Scouts

Fall brings beautiful weather, back to
school, football, and Girl Scouts. Troops
are now in the process of getting ready for
a busy year ahead. If you are in grades
1-12, you are invited to become a Girl
Scout. If you have not already registered
and would like to do so, or if you want
more information about Girl Scouting in
our area, you may call 427-8071.

We are also in need of a few adult
leaders. The requirements are easy-you
must be over 18 years of age and enjoy

NON.P~OFIT ORG
U. S. POSTAGE
PAID

Message From Ramsey Police

J J I'm sure that a number of citizens who read this will readily confirm that we
have had, and. are having, a large number of valdalisms and thefts from cars,
garages, and yards. For those of you who have had one of these types of incidents
happen to you and you feel frustrated, if it's any consolation to you, WE ARE ALSO
FRUSTRATED. One of the reasons for our frustration is that we are sick and tired of
seeing people hurt, emotionally, by these invasions of rights. In particular, van-
dalism, since it is a senseless crime, committed, I believe, by sadistic, emotionally
crippled persons. But also our frustration stems from what we hear while in-
vestigating the call. Time imd again we talk to residents in the area who say, "I heard
this car engine idling for 10 or 15 minutes about 2:00 a.m. and thought it was
strange," or "I saw a couple of kids and heard a crashing sound about 11:00 last
night but I didn't want to bother you guys."!!!
If you owned a cafe would you wait on a table yourself because you didn't want to
bother your waiter?!! You do pay us, you know!! Call when you hear noises or see
something strange. I just now picked up the phone on my desk and placed an im-
aginary call to 427-1212, the central police dispatch. From the time I picked up.the
phone until I hung up, took 40 seconds to give my name, my address and phone
number, and tell the dispatcher that I heard some strange noises in my back yard
and thought the police could check the area. Less than one minute!! Now I'm not go-
ing to guarantee you that we will be there in a couple of minutes as we may be far
away from you and/or on another call or eating lunch (Yes, Virginja, policemen do
eatl. But if we're not tied up (or if we're. at lunch and it's a suspicion type of call)
we'll respond as fast as our little wheels can carry us. Odds are that one of our cars
will be free when you call and those odds are 100% than if you don't call at all!
If it turns out to be a cat in the garbage can I promise you we will not roll on the
ground laughing at you. If the idling car turns out to be the neighbor's boy necking
with his girlfriend, we're not going to drag him kicking and screaming from the car.
We're simply going to do what you pay us to do: inquire into an occurrence that has
prompted a citizen to place a call for the police. .
Two officers can't cover nearly 32 square'miles and see much of anything. We'
need the nearly 10,000 pairs of eyes of our citizens to help. Basically, I'm saying that
if you hear or see something that causes you to take a second look or listen, then it is
likely what you heard or saw was unusual to your senses; not the normal sights and
sounds that you subconsciously filter out day to day. So call!!! 427-1212. Once more,
427-1212. Easy to remember, rolls right off the tongue. 427-1212.' ,

working with girls. The troop size and age
group depends on you, but most troops in
our area average from 8-12 girls. All train-
ing and meetings are held locally. Call
427-8071 and get any information you
want about becoming a leader.

Ask any leader and she will tell you
how much fun Girl Scouting really is.
