AMSEY EPORTER NEW CENTRAL PARK IS PLANNED Fed era I Cartridge Corporation has donated 51 acres of prime land to the City of Ramsey. A feasibility study is now underway to determine the method of financing, types of facilities needed and how construction should be phased. The site is located north of 161st Avenue and east of Armstrong Blvd. At present there is a great need for additional active use parks in the City. This park, together with smaller neighborhood parks, is being planned with this purpose in mind. The park is currently planned to contain: a warming house, free skating and outdoor ice rinks, tennis, basketball and volleYball courts, softball, little leagu e, baseball, soccer and football fields, picnic areas, bike paths a play area and horseshoe pits are also contemplated. Because of the anticipated capital outlay. a bond issue referendum is planned for the general elections in November. Before that time an informational brochure will be sent to all residents describing the project in greater detail, outlining the need for the facilities and presenting facts about expected costs to the taxpayers. CITY/SCHOOL NEWSLETTER VOTER REGISTRATION Are minder for voter registration: Advance registration for the primary September 9 is until August 19 and then the day of the election. Advance registration for the general election on November 4 is until October '14 and on the day of the election. Ramsey will be selecting a mayor and . for a two year term and two council persons for four year terms. MINNESOTA Permit No. 40 POSTAL PATRON A~<j)1"\8~ COMMUNITY SCHOOL SUMMER PROGRAM DRAWS LARG E NUMBERS The past Summer's Playground Program at Ramsey has been a huge success due to a new Roving Playground Concept that was initiated in June. The new Concept brings the arts and crafts, games, activities out into various city parks to make them more easily accessible to the people. The response has been very good throughout the Summer with nearly 200 children taking part regularly each week. By utilizing local park land children are able to walk or ride a bike to participate in playground activities rather than having to depend on parent's transportation. The concept has been very well received and with approval from the city council will be expanded to include more park sites in the summer of '81. Other benefits of the program have been better utilization of summer staff and more efficient use of funds which are provided by the City of Ramsey. The Roving Playground or Recreation on Wheels Concept has been utilized in other areas of School District 11 and has achieved similar success in those areas. ANOKA COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY OPEN HOUSE During open house activities at the Anoka County Historical Society held May 15, proclaimed Museum Day in the Anoka community, North Star Federated Women's Club presented its check in the amount of $400.00 to be included in the fund for the restoration of the Ramsey School House. Making the presentation to Mrs. Maxine Larson, President of the Historical Society, were Mrs. Bonnie Anderson, C.I.P. Chairman, and Mrs. Jeannette ~ Rosand, President of North Star Federated.
