Approximately a week and a half later, Park
Maintenance staffwere dispatched to the course to
distribute the soil in staging areas along the new
cart paths. Timing was critical. The goal was to
wait as long as possible until most of the snow
melted off the cart paths, yet timing the hauling to
the sites when the ground was still frozen. Every
attempt was made to minimize any additional turf
damage. The distribution of the soil took about two
days. The Maintenance Unit utilized one-ton dump
trucks and a skid steer to complete this phase of
the project.

Later this spring a staff member with a skid steer
will be asked to do final grading and firdsh the
work so the Chomonix staff can either sod or seed
these areas. These finished cart paths will be a
tremendous addition to the course. Thanks again
to ail that made this project move forward in such
a timely manner.

Twin Lakes County Park - Candidate
for Outdoor Recreation Grant

The Anoka County Parks and Recreation Department has
submitted a grant application for redevelopment dollars
for Twin Lakes County Park. This grant request was
submitted to the Minnesota Department of Natural
Resources, as part of their Outdoor Recreation Grant
Program. This grant program allows local agencies to
apply for matching funds for a wide variety of recreational
projects. If the grant application is successful, Twin Lakes
County Park will receive substantial improvements. It
was first developed in the early 1980's.

Essentially, the park will receive a complete make-over...
The existing facilities will be rebuilt and other recreational
amenities will be added. Redevelopment is anticipated to
include the following:

bituminous roads and parking lots
boat launch with parking lot
beach restroom/concession building
beach and playground
fishing pier and observation deck
pond study deck
paved trails and natural hiking trails
picnic shelters and support facilities
future sites for athletic fields

This redevelopment will likely occur in the years 2004 and
~2005. Upon completion of the redevelopment efforts, the
county will be in a position to transfer the park to the local
jurisdiction, Bums Township. This transfer will be similar
to the transfer of Golden Lake County Park to the City of
Circle Pines and is consistent with the goals outlined in the

2020 Vision Plan for the park system. OnCe the park was
turned over, the township will be responsible for
maintenance and any improvements thereafter.

Competition is fierce for these redevelopment projects,
however, Anoka County has been very successful in
obtaining grant funds for many park improvement projects
in the past. Let's hope for another successful project.

Savor the Mystery and Beauty of
Photogrammic Art

Beginning Friday, May 29~h, the walls of Banfill-Locbe
Center for the Arts on East River Road in 'Fridley will bear
beautiful, mysterious images created by artists Michael
and Abigail Mouw.
