CASE

CHARGE FOR TOPOGRAPHIC MAPPING
By: Steve Jankowski, City Engineer

Background:

In 1994, the City of Ramsey had two-foot interval topographic mapping prepared for the
southeastern quadrant of the City which is the area most rapidly developing. In addition to
being useful to staff for a multitude of purposes, such as the preparation of the drainage
study, this mapping has been extremely useful in assisting staff and developers with the
platting of new subdivisions. It was the intention at the time the mapping was authorized
that a portion of the cost be recovered by collecting a fee from developers at the time of
platting. Surrounding communities including Andover and Coon Rapids have instituted
such a charge. Be advised that a charge of $15 per acre for mapping has been established
in the City's Schedule of Rates, Fees and Charges which was adopted in November.
Collection of this fee, on 1,455 gross acres within the area of the MUSA for which we
have mapping, will result in revenue of $21,823 to offset the mapping cost of $30,000.
This charge will be acknowledged and collected as a Stage 2 cost on all development
agreements.

Committee Action:

None required.

Reviewed by:

City Engineer
City Administrator
Finance Officer
Zoning Administrator

RB: 05/23/95

/jmt
