Trails can foster community well-being by facilitating interaction between trail users when
meeting or passing each other on the paths.

Ramsey residents continue to express an overwhelming desire for trail development. This
was first identified by a 1987 survey. Four out of five respondents ranked a trail system as
most desired park development priority. (Second choice, at about 50% of a trail system,
was tennis courts followed by skating rinks.)

Following are two pie graphs from the most current Minnesota Outdoor Recreation Plan.
Underlined are activities associated with trail use.

Figure 22 Increase in blinnesolans' (),Jld~mr Recreation
Ilours in Minnesola by Activily~ 1985-2000

Drivinll.t0~ ~ ~~

..... ~ / I ~ ~ ~ S~immin~-4~
~alure O~ervalion.6~' ~ J t ~ .....

C~%' I llunlin~-~%
Boating-5%

* One additional activity shows a d~r~ase for dfix lime ~ri(~.
Note: Hours ~oj~led 10 i~rmsc a net 83.6 million hours from
1985-2~. This should be accomplished through standardized, economical
signage such as pavement markings and designated routes.
