environmental stewardship to all Ramsay students and residents.
Our volunteer~ have demonstrated a ~lrong commitment to maintaining the area and
providing new aspects to the Site which will enhance its beauty and habitat.
The Anoka-Hennepin School District is committed to ensuring the area as an asset to the
community. They have demons~-ated their concern by approving the establishment of the area,
assisting with the development of the Trail, and by providing labor. They have also demonstrated
their concern by installing NO SNOWMOBILING signs on school Site.
Ramsey high school students could also play a part in the maintenance of the project as their
earn community service credits.

Has the proiect been reviewed by any other potential funder?

We have requested a grant from SNAP (School Nature Area Project), but the $500 they offer
will only cover living organisms and tools.

* ls there an economic development aspect to the project?

Not directly, but we have had local contractors and businesses assist by providing the
bobcats and tractors for chipping the trail. We provided free advertisement for these groups through
a Thank You flyer in which we listed their business cards. We anticipate that any businesses that
donate equipment and services will also receive acknowledgement from the RELA committee.
The creation of a more interesting Nature Trail and Environmental Learning Area becomes
an asset to the community and a positive selling point for Ramsay landowners.

"Does the project provide for a recreational facet not yet developed in Ramsey or otherwise
unlikely to occur?

As Ramsay becomes a more urban area, we have designated a significant land area as a
Nature Trail and Environmental Learning Area. This area is unique to the Ramsay community as it
provides a learning area, as well as a pleasant area for walks. We will be providing maps, signs,
and literature about the area which wilt give residents a unique view of the historical and natural
history of the area. We wilt be identifying habitats and species which can be seen while walking the
Trail. The Ramsay students will be Provided with special training in the area of natural history and
environmental stewardship. Students will be able to teach their parents and siblings about the
importance of maintaining natural habitats in more urban areas.
With the construction of the Ramsay Paved Trail system within the Ramsay community, this
Nature Trail and Wetland will provide a 'V/ay-stop" area as well as a quiet observation area for
Ramsey residents. With the construction of the new school we are considering how we can link the
Ramsey Trail to this Nature Trail. We are aware that this Trail also makes a ideal spot for cross
