Mr. Mevissen continued that the garbage charge is mainly things his department picks up
along the road. The County facility is kind of "high buck". Other vehicle repair is up a bit.
Tire mounting has not been in his budget before but it has to be paid for so it's listed now.
Equipment rental includes towels, rags, water cooler, etc. The request for uniforms
decreased somewhat because the Parks Department is charged for their own uniforms now.
The uniforms are rented, but the safety vests are bought. He touched on the dues and
contracted services. The architectural fees will change.

Ms. Hart stated there will be a mortgage payment instead.

Mr. Mevissen stated that the motor vehicle is a 4 x 4 with a plow to replace Vehicle #618
(1985 Ford).

Mr. Schroeder inquired if the '85 Ford would be traded in.

Mr. Mevissen statexl that he would probably trade it or try to sell it. He felt it would not be
worth a whole lot.

Mr. Schroeder stated he is thinking about the summer kids and their need for a vehicle.

Mr. Mevissen stated we will have to wait to see the shape ifs in - maybe it will be able to
be used for that purpose. He added that the 2-1/2 ton track is to replace Vehicle #607
which is a 1982 and is badly in need of replacement. He commented on the Snow Rodeo
and the fact that no one from his department has ever gone but that he is requesting some
money be put toward that for 1995. He reiterated that gas is down - diesel is up - so it
evens out. The sand is for ice control. The sand was okay but the salt was cut and we ran
out, so he increased it.

Mr. Schroeder inquired how Mr. Mevissen figures out what he needs.

Mr. Mevissen stated he bases it on what was needed last year and adds a little more for
extra streets and increased costs.

Mr. Schroeder stated he goes home on Dysprosium and Thurston and this year there was a
big difference - Thurston was wet or dry and Dysprosium was glare ice.

Mr. Mevissen stated he has seen it the other way too. Anoka has more tracks and less
roads. When we get loaded up with salt, we cannot get more because the loader is out
plowing.

Mr. Jankowski stated there is a little difference in traffic too; more traffic and better
pavement. There are two bad spots - right at County Road #5 and County road #116.

Mr. Schroeder inquired about a new loader.

Mr. Mevissen stated it would cost about $100,000.

Mr. Schroedcr inquired if it would make more sense to buy another loader and have two
loaders.

Mr. Mevissen felt that getting the track replaced is the big thing. He stated if he had
another, they would both be used for plowing anyway.

Staff Budget Meeting/July 19, 1994
