Exhibit 1

Volunteer Opportunity
Environmental Expo Plannin!! Committee

Description: Plan and coordinate the City's Environmental Expo

Project Duration: November (2008) through early spring, culminating on April 18, 2009 (event date).

Estimated Hours: Committee members should anticipate at least 30-40 hours.

GoaVOutcome of Project: Plan and coordinate various components of the City's Environmental Expo,
an ammal environmental outreach event for residents. Components of the event include a tree/plant sale,
exhibitor's area, youth activities, and workshops/presentations on various environmental concepts and
topics of local interest.

Detail of Activity: Committee members will work both with Staff and independently (and possibly at
times in conjunction with the Environmental Policy Board [EPB]) to plan and coordinate the
Enviromnental Expo. Meetings will be once per month in November and December, and then more
frequently in January, February, and March, and then as needed in April. Planning efforts may include
developing themes for the event, contacting and lining up vendors/exhibitors for the event, leading
workshops and/or presentations and assisting with set-up and take-down for the event. The Committee
will be responsible for providing periodic progress reports to Staff, which can than be relayed to the EPB
and as needed to City Council and the Park & Recreation Commission.

Benefits to Volunteer: Pmiicipating on the Enviromnental Expo Planning Committee will allow
members to engage and educate the general public (and potentially the participant as well) about the
environment while also contributing to the improvement and beautification of their community.
