PC CASE #
•
CONSIDER ENDING THE PROBATIONARY PERIOD
FOR A COMMUNITY SERVICE OFFICER
Background
Givonna Reed Kone, Human Resources Manager
In January 2007, Melissa Wistrom was promoted to Patrol Officer and staff conducted an
internal recruitment process to fill the vacancy left by Ms. Wistrom. Drew Moldenhauer
was hired by the City Council on January 24, 2007 to fill the Community Service Officer
vacancy.
Mr. Moldenhauer was subject to a six month probationary period; however, after being
employed with the City for a few months, he took an eight week leave of absence to
complete Skills Training to become a Patrol Officer. Shortly after returning from his
leave of absence, Mr. Moldenhauer was temporarily assigned by the City Council to
work as a Patrol Officer for a period not to exceed six months.
Taking into consideration Mr. Moldenhauer's leave of absence and his temporary Patrol
Officer assignment, Mr. Moldenhauer has successfully completed his six month
probationary period and staff recommends removing him from probation and retaining
• him as afull-time regular Community Service Officer.
Funding Source
This Community Service Officer position was approved as part of the 2007 General Fund
Budget and there are no additional funding implications associated with removing the
Community Service Officer from probation and retaining him as a full-time regular
Conununity Service Officer.
Staff Recommendation
Based on satisfactory completion of the six-month probationary period, staff recommends
that Drew Moldenhauer be removed from probation effective September 14, 2007 and
that he be retained as a full-time regular Communty Service Officer.
Committee Action:
Make a motion recommending that the City Council adopt a resolution ending the
probationary period for Drew Mo enh er and granting status as a full-time regular
Community Service O
Reviewed By: CityAdministrator
• PC: 12-11-07
G:V~dministrationlHomanResources~PerfonoanceEvaloations~Fr~dingProbationVvIoldenfiaoer.doc -
-159-
