Environmental Coordinator Anderson summarized Planning for the 2008 Environmental Expo
will be getting started in earnest now that we've entered the new year. He advised that staff is in
discussion with Prairie Restorations rnc regarding a potential topic and speaker for one of the
'classes', which likely will focus on landscaping with native plants and the associated benefits.
He stated that a second topic and speaker/presenter is still being sought. He advised that the
expo is set for Saturday April 19th from 8am to I pm. He explained that a lot of the structure for
the expo is similar to past expos with the exception of the presentations and "classes". He added
that it would be held at the municipal center instead of Ramsey Elementary. He stated that it
would be great if the land situation across the street was resolved by then so that it could be
utilized for the event, but that is doubtful. He explained that staff has to have the information for
the March Ramsey Resident in by the first week in February, so the assumption is that the
information on the expo will be pretty general.

Chairperson McDilda advised that they make sure that they let people know where they can go to
get more information on the expo since they have to have the Ramsey Resident information in so
early.

Board Member Bentz questioned if Ace or Connexus had been exhibitors in prior expos.

Environmental Coordinator Anderson advised that Chairperson McDilda had already suggested
that they invite Ace to the expo and they are going to attend, but they have not been to any prior
expos. He explained that he attended an event at PACT Charter School, where Connexus had a
renewable energy display and info and he is trying to get the contact information to extend the
invitation for the expo. He stated that one of the trendy topics out there right now is rain gardens
and staff is contemplating that as a topic for the second presentation. He explained that he does
not want to do more than two presentations this first year due to the uncertainty of attendance.

Board Member Max advised that it might be good to get feedback to help with the planning of
future expos. He suggested a booth for buckthorn, how to identify it, as well as showing the
weed wrench and explaining the process for checking it out for use.

Chairperson McDilda stated that they would need to discuss the Board's presence at the expo.
He suggested that they have buckthorn as part of the discussion at the EPB booth.

Environmental Coordinator Anderson stated that he has the buckthorn buster manual and weed
wrench. He stated that he needs to check with the County, but he would like to use some of the
recycling funds to purchase a display board for future recycling advertising and they could
potentially use it for the EPB display.

Board Member Max stated that he would be available to help Environmental Coordinator
Anderson plan for the expo on Friday. Chairperson McDilda stated that he would be available to
help with the planning at about 3pm on Friday also. The consensus of the three was to meet
Friday at 3pm to work on the planning of the expo.

Board Member Max stated that the first class of master naturalists will be finishing around that
time and they could have a booth at the expo.

Board Member Freeburg questioned if nametags could be provided for the EPB members.

Environmental Policy Board / January 7, 2008
Page 8 of 10
