2008 Short Term Goal: Renew the Faith of Our Citizens Executive Summary Council Staff Retreat February 1, 2, 2008 Suggested Strategies *: 1. Re- engage the public on big changes to the master development plan (incorporate OST and Ramsey Town Center Task Force in the public participation). 2. Encourage community involvement - engage residents 3. Invest in physical image - entries & corridors 4. Have open, honest communication 5. Conduct more neighborhood informational meetings. 6. OST 7. Send clear, consistent messages from staff and council. 8. Allow healthy debate: 9. Share the facts, background more readily. 10, Encourage referendums at presidential elections on key issues to increase participation. * These suggestions were proffered in the discussion regarding "overcoming obstacles ". 2008 Short Term Direction: Communications Staff to review what other cities are doing in relation to communication. The information will be presented to Council for consideration of hiring a consultant to review and make a recommendation on the City's current communication procedures. TOP PRIORITIES: 1- 2 Years (2008, 2009) These priorities are the things that both council and staff will focus on in the next couple of years to meet their stated goals. While there was no ranking of the Goals, Council and staff ranked the Priorities. 1. Rail Station - Secure a rail stop for the City of Ramsey. 2. Community Center - Get a consensus for developing a center as one catalyst for the development of the Town Center. 3. Big box - Work toward securing an agreement for development as a catalyst for the development of Town Center. 4. Target Store - Working toward securing an agreement. 5. Theater Identify possibilities. 6. Mixed Housing - update comprehensive plan to incorporate mixed use housing, and work toward development efforts.
