Background: CONSIDER SUPPORT FOR ANOKA AQUATIC CENTER FOR 2008 By Leonard Linton, Civil Engineer II CASE # The City has supported the Anoka Aquatic Center with a cash contribution for the past ten (10) years. The issue has been addressed at the Finance Committee and Council meetings with the decision being to continue on a year to year basis. This program is supported from the charitable gambling fund, so it should be reviewed by the Park and Recreation Commission then forwarded to the City Council for action. The last several years the Parks and Recreation Commission has recommended the funds be directed towards a community center or pool in Ramsey and not be used to support the Anoka Pool. The City Council changed the Lawful Gambling Policy in 2007 to increase the amount the City receives and how the funds can be used The policy for use of the Lawful Gambling fund was discussed at the April 15, 2008 work session. The consensus of the City Council was to direct Staff to prepare a revision to the ordinance stipulating that a minimum of 70% be used for capital improvements to City Parks, allowing a maximum of 30% for recreational programming.
