Many of these were
alcohol related. Our county has con-
sistently been in the top 10 deadliest
counties for traffic crashes in Minne-
sota. Anoka County law enforcement
agencies find this fact unacceptable.
The city of Ramsey Police Depart-
ment, in conjunction with all other
law enforcement agencies in our
county, have gotten together to form
a DWI tasl( force in order to try to
lower our death toll.
In our first ten months of
operation we stopped 8,839 vehicles;
arrested 582 drunl( drivers; and took a
total of 751 people to jail. Addition-
ally, we cited 423 people for driving
with suspended/revol(ed/or cancelled
licenses. A total of 81 people were
cited/arrested for drug offenses.

With assistance from the
Federal Government and the State of
Minnesota, we will be putting extra
officers on the streets throughout the
summer and into the fall. The Anoka
County DWI Task Force will be tar-
geting problem areas in order to make
the citizens of Anol(a County safer.
In addition, we are also
putting extra officers on the streets
as part of the Safe and Sober Cam-
paign. We will be starting the spring
enforcement wave in May. The
Ramsey Police Department is seri-
ous about mal(ing our streets safer for
everyone.
For more information, con-
tact the Ramsey Police Department at
763-427-6812.
Remember - Drunk Driving:
Over the Limit - Under arrest.

Outdoor
Warning Sirens

Warning sirens are the most
effective method of warning the
population at large about dangerous
conditions. However, one common
misconception about warning sirens
is that they will alert people who are
indoors to dangerous conditions out-
doors. While some people may live
close enough to hear the sirens in-
doors, this is not the intended purpose
of the sirens. Sirens are designed to
advise people who are outside that a
hazardous condition exists or is ap-
proaching. A battery operated radio
or TV is the best way to stay advised
of possible dangerous conditions
when indoors. For more informa-
tion on the city of Ramsey's warning
sirens, please contact the Ramsey
Police Department at 763-427-6812.

Free Car Seat
INSPECTIONS
for Anoka County
Residents

Safe Kids Anoka County
offers several car seat clinics through-
out the year for Anoka County resi-
dents to have their car seats inspected
by trained technicians.
