<br />Councilmember Look stated that in looking through the information on the abatement ordinance, <br />it was vehicle after vehicle that caused the problems. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec stated that it comes down to what the definition of junk vehicles is. <br /> <br />Assistant Community Development Director Frolik stated that if they are junk vehicles, then the <br />abatement and public nuisance ordinances can come into play. <br /> <br />Councilmember Elvig stated that he could support the requirement for an improved surface for a <br />motor vehicle parked in the back of a lot, but not for trailers. <br /> <br />Councilmember Olson stated that she agreed with the suggestion of changing the acreage to 1 <br />acre or more. <br /> <br />Councilmember Elvig stated that he thinks improved surface should be defined as something that <br />is a continuous surface and not just under the four wheels. <br /> <br />Assistant Community Development Director Frolik stated that the current ordinance doesn't <br />require recreational vehicles to be on an improved surface. <br /> <br />Community Development Director Miller stated that she thinks the City wants improved surface <br />requirements for sideyards because of the 5 foot setback. <br /> <br />Councilmember Dehen suggested having a 5 foot setback for everything and that trailers parked <br />in the rear yard do not need improved surfaces. <br /> <br />Assistant Community Development Director Frolik stated that what she was hearing from the <br />Council was that residents can have 5 items on 1 acre or less and 8 items on parcels over 1 acre. <br /> <br />Councilmember Dehen stated that he would like to see that changed to 5 items on 2 acres, not 1 <br />acre. <br /> <br />Police Chief Way stated that he thinks a flat number would be easy to enforce, but thinks the <br />definition of motor vehicle should be redefined. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec suggested that 3 items be allowed outside for lots that are 1 acre or less and 6 <br />items allowed outside on lots larger than 1 acre. <br /> <br />Councilmember Dehen stated that he would like to leave it at 5 and 8 items, but change the <br />acreage to 2 acres for the smaller amount. <br /> <br />Councilmember Olson stated that she could not agree with a 2 acre size. <br /> <br />Councilmember Look gave an example of someone who lives on a 2 acre parcel and the owner <br />does not want things on his driveway, so he puts an improved surface on the southern portion of <br /> <br />City Council Work Session / June 3, 2008 <br />Page 6 of 16 <br />
