Mayor Gamec reiterated his suggestion for 3 items on parcels of 1 acres or less and 6 items for
parcels larger than 1 acre. He stated that vehicles and items could be considered two different
things.

Councilmember Dehen clarified that Mayor Gamec's suggestion was that 3 items, not vehicles,
be allowed on parcels 1 acre or less. He asked ifR.V.'s and ice houses would be considered an
item or a vehicle.

City Attorney Goodrich stated that anything other than a licensed motor vehicle would be
considered an item.

CouncilmemberElvig stated that he thinks he can agree with Mayor Gamec's ideas, including
that vehicles need to be on an improved surface.

Community Development Director Miller asked whether there should be improved surfaces for
trailers.

Councilmember Elvig stated that he didn't think so.

Councilmember Dehen stated that if the trailers are in the sideyard; he thinks they should be on
an improved surface.

Mayor Gamec suggested leaving trailers with recreational vehicles and other items right now.

City Attorney Goodrich noted that this will require another public hearing by the Planning
Commission and asked if the Council felt another discussion at a work session would be
necessary .

Mayor Gamec stated that he thinks the Council has agreed that motor vehicles have to be on
improved surfaces, connected to driveways and that for parcels 1 acre or less, people can have up
to 3 items and for parcels over 1 acres they can have up to 6 items.

Councilmember Elvig stated that while he agrees with requiring improved surfaces for vehicles,
he does not agree that they should be connected to a driveway because it would ruin property in
the rural areas. He suggested having a 25 foot setback requirement from lot lines on an
improved surface, for vehicles. He stated that perhaps there could also be a screening
requirement, such as a 25 foot setback from lot line or screened if it is closer, but no closer than 5
feet.

Councilmember Look stated that this wouldn't clear up all the issues, because the blue van
would still be parked in the same place.

Mayor Gamec stated that the Council keeps talking about the blue van and feels this is worrying
too much about one situation and beating this horse to death.

City Council Work Session / June 3, 2008
