The new meters will also alert the City of any <br />leaks and noted that the City sent out 23 letters to residents informing them of a leak; <br />Action: <br />No action required. <br />Case #a Update on Odd/Even Sprinkling Ban <br />Background: <br />Staff indicated that the sprinkling ban ended the day after Labor Day and the City sent out 137 <br />certified letters to people who were in violation of the ban this year. Digital cameras were used <br />to capture the incident and the pictures were time and date stamped. There were no repeat <br />offenders in 2008; so there were no fines issued this season. Staff trade a big effort to educate <br />people this year on the ban including inserts in the utility bills so everyone knew when, it went <br />into effect and who it applied to. The City pumped 320,720,982 gallons, which is about an <br />average of 3.5 million gallons per day compared to winter consumption of 866,882 gallons. <br />Action: <br />No action required, <br />Case #S Consider Wellhead Protection Implementation Action Programs <br />Background: <br />The Engineering and Community Development Departments are preparing a Wellhead <br />Protection Plan and part of the plan is to talk about action steps. The City has a total of 8 wells <br />that supply the City's water, two are in the East Well Field and the other six are in the West Well <br />Field. It was noted that the Drinking Water Supply Management Area (DWSMA.) is the area <br />that surrounds the entire area that has a 10 -year recharge period. The East Well Field is rated as <br />having low vulnerability for contaminants and the West Well Field has been designated as <br />moderately vulnerable. The West Well Field has the possibility of water leaking from the <br />aquifer above or other wells that penetrate in or near the aquifer that the City draws from. Five <br />action steps were included in the agenda packet for the Public Works Committee to consider, <br />The City will also set a date within one year to accurately locate all the wells in the DWSMA. <br />area. For this plan, the City is required to do 25 but, the City would like to locate all of them. <br />Action: <br />No action required. <br />Case #G: Report on Extended Warranties on New Pavements and Overlays <br />Background: <br />Staff has spoken with the Department of Transportation and they had tried using extended <br />warranties in the early part of the decade but they have moved away from them.
